The Ferrari F40. One of the most glorious supercars to ever come from the workshop of Ferrari. The F40 defied all laws of physics upon its introduction in 1987, being capable of 200 mph. It also became the last supercar that was personally approved by Enzo Ferrari himself before his death in 1988. It became the fastest, most powerful and most expensive car Ferrari had ever made at the time. There are few ways in which the F40 could ever be actually improved.

That is, however, unless you are Liberty Walk. The Japanese tuning company is well known for some incredible performance and cosmetic upgrades. And now they have teased a new body kit for the Ferrari F40, ahead of its debut at the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon. For many, this kind of body kit is probably blasphemous. How dare they take an iconic shape like the F40 and ruin it. But this is Liberty Walk. Even their most blasphemous of body kits are absolutely beautiful. This F40 kit is no exception. No matter what you think about changing a car’s original appearance, Liberty Walk do it properly.

One thing Liberty Walk has absolutely done with this kit is make the F40 racetrack ready. The car looks every bit a GT racer thanks to the plethora of changes. We need to stress that so far, these are renders. The full kit will be on show at the Tokyo Auto Salon in mid-January. A new front cowl, cowl duct and light cover are two of the highlights on this Liberty Walk F40. They are on clear display at the front of the supercar.

Not only that but Liberty Walk have gone to town on the splitter side skirts. These are very pronounced, as is their new diffuser at the back of the F40. The rear wing, already spectacular, is even more so. The original end-plates prop up a much more aggressive actual wing. It won’t have escaped your eyes that this new F40 is also incredibly wide. Extremely wide really. New side fenders really do improve the girth of the F40, and just add more to the racing vibe of the supercar. On top of that, but a new hood allows for a much larger opening, with a huge NACA duct in the center of the car.

The changes keep going. Canards are on the corners of the F40, while a 1980s staple, the pop-up headlights, are now gone. In their place are much more conventional headlights. While there is a lot of cool with this car, we will always prefer the original pop-up headlights. A closer look at the back of the F40 shows just how big the rear wing of the car now is. Meanwhile, Liberty Walk have kept the original, oval-shaped exhaust outlet.

That exhaust outlet though is now flanked by that new Liberty Walk diffuser. The diffuser is just as spectacular as the rear wing, giving the back of the F40 a really incredible vibe. The company has also worked on dropping the ride height of the F40 too. The wheels now completely fill the wheel wells of the supercar, meaning this monster is nearly scraping along the ground. You certainly don’t want to take it over any speed humps that is for sure. Nor would you want to go over a pothole in it! It is certainly one hell of an eye-catching stance.

Not Your Typical Daily Driver Ferrari

With such a small ground clearance, it's probably not a car that many would take daily driving. The underside would certainly get a lot of hammering, and the F40 isn’t exactly a ground clearing king as it is. In terms of the asking price for this body kit, well we don’t have one yet. On Liberty Walk’s website, the price is currently listed as “Ask”. More than likely, this kit is not going to come cheap. And you will of course have to already own a Ferrari F40. A car that is also not very cheap either.

For those who want it though, the Liberty Walk F40 kit is now on sale. This is just over a week before the Tokyo Auto Salon starts. Liberty Walk have also hinted that much more is to come at the show too, such as a modified Lamborghini Murcielago. We think though that this F40 body kit is set to become their highlight of the show. It will probably be their most controversial too, as the F40 is of course considered an all-time classic. But if anyone could do a Ferrari F40 body kit justice it is Liberty Walk. And it looks like they have absolutely done that.
