Porsche made sure the new 992-generation 911 Turbo made its rounds through the press corp before releasing the car to the general public. Popular Porsche personalities like Magnus Walker came away impressed by the Turbo's combination of supercar performance and daily drivability, largely thanks to the new eight-speed PDK gearbox. In the hands of private owners, the Turbo—especially in S trim—has proven itself perhaps even more potent than Porsche advertised.

Of course, the internet has to see this Porsche taking on other six-figure supercars, and it managed to do quite well against a Ferrari F8 Tributo in a street-racing scenario as featured in a video posted to DragTimes in December. But now DragTimes has taken a 992 Porsche Turbo S to a real drag strip for a rematch against the Ferrari to see how the two cars' quarter-mile times stack up in controlled competition.

Now, it's worth noting that the Ferrari F8 Tributo costs almost half again as much as a new Turbo S and its mid-engined layout makes it much less practical as a two-seater for daily driving. The Porsche, on the other hand, can seat four people, though the low roofline makes things uncomfortable in the backseat until the soft-top of this Cabriolet is retracted.

In the street race from DragTimes, the 992 Turbo S Cabriolet gets a jump on the Ferrari, probably thanks to the efficacy of the eight-speed PDK, which routes power to all four wheels. In terms of stats, the Turbo S sports a 3.7-liter flat-six that produces factory ratings of 640 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque, in a car that weighs 3,790 pounds. Unlike many sports cars featured on DragTimes, the car in question here has received no modifications.

The Ferrari F8 Tributo steps up to the line with an advantage in almost every line of the stat sheet. Its twin-turbocharged 3.9-liter V8 has more cylinders, more displacement, and produces 710 horsepower and 569 lb-ft of torque. It also weighs about 300 pounds less, though that savings is probably due to the fact that its seven-speed automatic routes power to the rear wheels only.

In the new video, both cars set their best quarter-mile times when not actually racing against each other. The Ferrari appears to struggle a bit off the line, so watch the clip to see whether Porsche's all-wheel-drive traction can make up for those other disadvantages across the board.
