Ferrari has joined the world of other top-tier automakers with the release of its Pursonque SUV. After months of spy shots and official teases, the storied Italian brand will have something to compete against the Lamborghini Urus, Aston Martin DBX, Rolls Royce Cullinan, and Bentley Bentayga. Ferrari rolled out the 715-hp Purosangue via the web and social media.

No Surprises For Ferrari's First SUV

In May, Ferrari clued enthusiasts that the Purosangue (Italian for thoroughbred) will have a V12 under the hood. The official rollout doesn't offer anything different. Rumors of a hybrid powerplant were just that, rumors. However, this Ferrari's 715 ponies will provide bragging rights as the most powerful gas-powered production SUV. The 6.5-liter engine promises a 0-62 mph time of 3.3 seconds and a 193 mph top speed.

Being the Purosangue is an SUV, Ferrari gave the vehicle all-wheel drive. This also grants the Purosangue successor status to the automaker's first AWD car, the Ferrari FF grand tourer. While the Purosangue's mechanical setup is predictable, the suicide doors aren't (the company is already calling the SUV a "Ferrari lounge").

As of this writing, there's no word on pricing or delivery dates.

Keeping The Purists Happy…Sort Of

A social media review finds numerous comments akin to "Enzo is rolling over in his grave" when talking about the debut of a Ferrari SUV. But, opinions split as many Ferrarista welcome the arrival of something more practical (in terms of a Ferrari) from Maranello.

Yet the automaker has promised that the Purosangue won't overwhelm the Ferrari stable. In June, company CEO Benedetto Vigna said that the SUV would not exceed 20 percent of the automaker's total annual production.

It's a move designed to appease Ferrari purists, especially as the Urus has turned Lamborghini into an SUV company. According to company data, of the 8,405 vehicles built by Lamborghini in 2021, 5,021 (about 60%) were the Urus SUV.
