Ferraris are already wild and exclusive cars, driven by only the fortunate few. Among those owners are some real enthusiasts, who collect dozens of the brand's models, old and new. Those fanatics are the only customers that Ferrari will allow to commission one-off examples of its iconic cars. Costing millions of dollars apiece, these unique Prancing Horses are some of the most exclusive cars on the planet.

Most custom creations focus on the car's looks, with the owner specifying what model from Ferrari's illustrious back catalog they'd like their machine to look like. Sometimes though, owners go all the way and create cars with unique looks and powertrain combinations that, even for a Ferrari, are just insane. Let's take a tour through some of the greatest one-off cars that the world's wealthiest petrolheads have been lucky enough to commission.

8 F430 SP1

The SP1 was the first car to come from Ferrari's Special Projects division, a team entirely dedicated to making one-off creations for collectors. It was unveiled in 2008, and built for a Japanese collector.

It was based on the stock F430 and shares a lot of visual similarity, but the entire car's body panels have in fact been reworked and reshaped. The car was designed by Leonardo Fioravanti, who took inspiration from his earlier F100 concept when penning the SP1.

7 SP38 Deborah

Swiss collector Ronnie Kessel decided his existing collections of dozens of Ferraris wasn't unique enough, and commissioned this as the crown jewel of his hoarde. It was revealed at the ultra-exclsuive Villa d'Este event in 2018, on the shores of Lake Como in Italy.

The design is reportedly inspired by the F40, but uses a 488 GTB as a base car. Although it might be assumed that the name "Deborah" refers to someone close to the owner's heart, it apparently refers to the shade of paint the car comes in. Custom paintwork called Deborah? Only on a Ferrari.

6 Testa D'Oro Colani

This strange-looking wedge of a car isn't actually an official Ferrari creation, instead being the work of Luigi Colani, a German designer. It was based on a Ferrari Testarossa, but sported a number of improvements to boost the car's power up to 739 hp. The idea behind the car was to achieve a world record speed at the Bonneville Salt Flats.

Although the car never lived up to that challenge, its unique looks and power made a lasting impression among aficionados and casual fans alike. Despite its unofficial conversion, it's still considered as valuable as any other Ferrari one-off. In 2015, it was put up for sale for $1.7 million.

Now it's pretty obvious what this custom creation is based on, since it keeps most of the looks and the name too. A reworking of the 458 Speciale, there's less extreme stylistic differences on the MM Speciale, but the main change is that wraparound windshield.

It's reportedly inspired by the Ferrari 288 GTO, and was built using carbon fiber and aluminium body panels. It's a good-looking car and goes to show that not every Ferrari one-off has to be a crazy-looking, track-only beast.

This racing-inspired custom Prancing Horse was built by Ferrari and designed by Pininfarina, the design house responsible for a laundry list of Italian greats. It was built for James Glickenhaus, a film director and owner of the automaker Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus.

The car was originally an Enzo Ferrari, but was redesigned at the request of its owner, reportedly at a cost of $4 million. It was presented at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in 2006. Underneath, it keeps its Enzo internals, meaning a 6.0L V12 engine and an F1-style gearbox.

3 SP12 EC

This car was commissioned by none other than a certain Mr Eric Clapton, hence the name, SP12 EC. The legendary musician had always loved his Ferraris, but in 2012 he went one step further and bought himself this one-off based on a 458 Italia.

The car was inspired by the 512 Boxer, and elements of the Boxer's design can quite clearly be seen in the car's silhouette. Underneath, the car sports the same V8 as in the stock 458 Italia, although it's not known whether any modifications were carried out.

2 SP275 RW Competizione

Based on the F12, this car was commissioned by an American dentist, reportedly at a cost of $3-4 million. It's sure to put a smile on the face of its owner, as it uses the engine and internal components of the F12tdf. That means it makes an impressive 769 hp.

It also sports custom wheels that were designed specifically for the SP275. The front of the car looks somewhat like a cross between a 612 Scagiletti and a first-gen Jaguar F-Type, both of which are good cars. They're also an awful lot cheaper than the SP275, so anyone in the hunt for a supercar on a more modest budget would do well to consider them instead.

1 P80/C

This gorgeous machine was inspired by a number of the Prancing Horse's greatest cars, including the 330 P3/P4 and Dino 206 S. It's a track-only vehicle, and that allowed Ferrari's designers more freedom to optimize the design than would be possible for a road-legal model.

As a result, it uses refined aero and details like small headlights to make a truly unique-looking beast. Power for the P80/C hasn't been officially confirmed, but since it's based on the 488 GT3 race car, it's likely to sport a version of that car's turbocharged V8.
