The Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX 2G is one of the most mythical and rare to find Japanese cars ever. But weirdly, these cars are not considered much of a success. In fact, they are actually considered more of a failure despite the fact it has good points, like four-wheel drive. But YouTuber, David Patterson of ThatDudeinBlue, says this Mitsubishi is one of his favorite Japanese cars ever. He explains why in this video, and also why the car was a bit of a JDM failure.

What Makes The Eclipse GSX Click

There are some great points about this car. The four-wheel drive, for example, is pretty good. The 4G63 four-cylinder turbo engine, lightweight nature of the car and great handling are all reasons to get excited by this car.

Patterson is able to experience a 1999 GSX owned by RJ, who explains that a lot of people did get into these cars and modified them thanks to the Fast & Furious films. And as Patterson says, another thing that makes the GSX great is that it is a blank canvas for many people, who put wild body kits on them.

Here's Why The Sports Car Failed

There isn’t anything wrong with this Eclipse, as it has quite a peppy feel, and it’s a great car to run around town in. But why did it fail? Well, perhaps part of that is that it doesn’t quite fit in with traditional JDM culture. The car was actually made in Illinois. And it shares a lot of parts with Chrysler, and is, of course, related to the less successful Eagle Talon. Those reasons are probably to blame for the car not really ringing true with the consumers. But it's certainly not a bad car.

An All-Wheel Drive Mitsubishi

The Eclipse GSX is not a bad car at all. A solid engine, similar to that of what was under the hood of the Evo 3. All-wheel drive gave it great traction, and the handling element of the car is tremendous — even when the car is basically stock, like this Eclipse GSX.

RJ mentions how in second gear, this car is a lot of fun. And Patterson certainly seems to be having a lot of fun driving this particular GSX. It goes to show that a car’s reputation might not be a fair reflection of what it is actually capable of.
