As time goes by, the ever-adorable Porsche 911 also evolves. In fact, the 911 has been evolving for nearly six decades. Now, the 911 has become one of the quickest and fastest sports cars around, even capturing various track records around the world.

To celebrate 60 years of 911, the German carmaker introduced the Porsche 911 Sport Classic. While it’s a delighting special edition limited to just 1,250 examples, Mat Watson of carwow still has some honest words about it.

Not A Purist Car But The Most Powerful Manual Porsche

As Mat Watson noted, the Porsche 911 Sport Classic may look back to the distant past of the beloved nameplate, but it’s not a car that would please purists. After all, it’s not really a purist car despite having rear-wheel drive configuration and manual gearbox.

It’s also not the most powerful 911 in the present times. While it has the same engine as the menacing Porsche 911 Turbo S – a 3.7-liter flat-six motor – the 911 Sport Classic is less potent. Porsche has to tone down the power output and torque level to 543 hp and 442 lb-ft simply because of the limitations of the manual transmission.

Mat would rather have the 911 Sport Classic feature a Porsche’s dual-clutch transmission (PDK). Nevertheless, the manual gearbox is part of the appeal of this model. Interestingly, it’s the most powerful 911 with a manual transmission. Nobody would mind, though, since Porsche has already sold out all examples of the 911 Sport Classic.

Exterior And Interior Elements From 911s Of The Past

Design-wise, Mat remarked that this version of the 911 features various classic elements borrowed or re-imagined from different 911 series. For instance, the double-bubble roof 911 Sport Classic borrows its wide body from the 911 Turbo models and its ducktail spoiler from the legendary Carrera RS 2.7. It also features a decal number in a circular design, gold badging, and the Fuchs rim-inspired Sport Classic wheels.

Featuring a roof and a hood made from carbon fiber, the 911 Sport Classic also borrows elements from the past for its cabin. The car comes with a two-tone interior in black Nappa leather, semi-aniline leather in classic cognac, and borrows the so-called Pepita fabric. This is the black and white diamond pattern with slanting stripes that made its debut in the original 911 model.

Moreover, the car’s instrument cluster features an analog rev counter with traditional layout and needle as well as dials paying tribute to the legendary 356 with its green numerals.
