You know the age of the electric car is here when Lamborghini are going all-electric. Our friend and YouTube supercar spy Varryx has been out and about again at Lamborghini’s factory. Now he has caught the first glimpse of an electric Lamborghini out in the world in the form of an Urus prototype. The surprise of seeing an Urus roar onto the road, in total silence, caused Varryx to do a double take. Gone is that V8 roar, in its place comes electric silence.

Of course, Lamborghini are not strangers at all to electric power. They have experimented with supercapacitors in the new Sian and the upcoming Aventador replacement is set to be a hybrid as well. So it's not totally unexpected and we knew this was coming. But it is certainly a bit of a shock to the system to see a Lamborghini pull out of its HQ with no sound coming out of the engine. A few details across the Lamborghini also confirm that Varryx has captured the first electric Lamborghini Urus. It is now out on the road in its full and truly glorious silence.

A Glance In A Mirror Reveals Something Is Occurring At Lamborghini

How Varryx realized he was about to capture something a bit different is quite funny. Varryx could hear the car approaching the factory gates, but he heard no engine sound. A glance in a mirror opposite the factory entrance saw him spot that it was an Urus at the gate, and he knew that something was very much afoot with this car. Out of the gate it came and there was absolutely no sound from the Urus. Varryx has to put a caption in the video to tell us the car is moving!

The driver checks the road then heads out on his test run in the car, and it's more mind-boggling as we can clearly see the exhausts on the bottom of the car. As Varryx shows us, we expect quite the gurgle from a V8 engine as the Urus departs the factory. But this particular prototype just glides away as if it is running on magic. Well, we know now that this is an electric Urus prototype. And as Varryx says, it should be the PHEV prototype, as it is a little too early for the fully electric Urus.

The Clues That Reveal This Is A PHEV Urus And Not A Standard V8

As Varryx points out, there are plenty of little clues that reveal that this is not your ordinary Urus. Apart from the lack of noise it is producing. The main details are the electrification warning signs all over the car. While these are not standard on the final, production models, they are on prototypes. This is so those working on the cars or near the car are aware that it does have electrical propulsion systems within it. These signs are also seen on the side of the car, on the front and at the back.

Another little sign is the new fuel door on the left-hand side of the Urus. It looks very rough and ready with tape covering it. This, Varryx surmises, is highly likely to be hiding the charging port for the plug-in hybrid element of the hybrid Urus. How do we know it's not just the old filler door on the other side of the car? Well as we see the car come back from its test run, we can clearly see that the original door is still in place on the Urus.

An Electric Urus Isn’t Something Varryx Is Hugely Excited About

An electrified Urus certainly feels a bit strange, and it isn’t something Varryx is hugely excited about. Part of the Urus appeal is of course the fact it is a Lamborghini, but in SUV form with a big V8 engine under the hood. But electrification is coming, and it has already hit the supercar and the hypercar world. And Lamborghini has to go down the electric route at some point in order to survive. Varryx has captured the start of that journey for the Urus for us all to marvel at.

A Silent Lamborghini Urus Is Initially A Bit Of A Shock

It is certainly a bit of a shock to see this Urus pull out of the Lamborghini factory with no sound. We feel like we’ve taken a step into the future. But we know full well that the PHEV Urus is on the way, and it's a big statement from Lamborghini that they are firmly committing to this hybrid route. Plus with hybrid supercars coming to their range, it is fair to say that the electric revolution has come to the Raging Bull. Varryx will no doubt be on hand to capture more footage of this prototype in action, and further electric Lamborghinis.
