About a month after Fisker Inc. finally revealed the name of its luxury electric SUV, the US automaker is now opening reservations for the new Fisker Ocean. However, Fisker isn't letting anyone – save for a few – own its new SUV. You can drive the new Fisker Ocean without owning one; just avail yourself of their lease program.

We don’t know if Fisker is being too generous, but perhaps it just wants people to try out the new Ocean luxury electric SUV, which will arrive over two years from now. But first, you will need to place a reservation -- via the Fisker mobile app or its website – at a cost of $250.

The company’s flexible lease program for the new Fisker Ocean starts at around $379 per month. But before the company delivers the new luxury electric SUV to your garage, you have to shell out a down payment of $2,999, which includes both initiation and activation fees. A "$0 drive off" option is available when a credit-approved customer puts down a fully financed $2,999 down payment.

According to Fisker, it will reveal exclusive new teaser images of the Ocean once a reservation is placed. Then, as planned, the company will unveil the new luxury electric SUV on January 4, 2020.

Starting next year, customers will be able to see the Ocean and the available packages at select Fisker experience centers. They can also schedule test drives via Fisker’s mobile app starting in 2021, with the production of the SUV set to start at the end of the year.

As for how long a lease can last, Fisker is letting its customers decide. Customers could take the deal and return the Ocean after six months, a year or several years. Fisker just doesn't want long-term contracts. That’s a first in the industry!

Fisker plans to commence high-volume deliveries of the new Ocean to customers in 2022. Once delivered, customers can drive their new luxury electric SUV up to 30,000 miles a year. That beats Tesla’s allotment for its vehicles including the Model 3, as pegged at a maximum of 15,000 miles annually.

When the time comes to maintain or service a Fisker Ocean SUV, customers don’t have to hassle themselves. As prompted by the onboard system or by Fisker’s mobile app, the company will pick up the SUV and return it when things are already fixed.

But if you really want to purchase a new Ocean, Fisker plans to sell a very limited number with the final price to be disclosed in January 2020. Of course, you also need to place a reservation with the fee applied to the purchase price.
