Electric cars were once seen as a thing of the future, but right now, they are more prevalent and popular than ever. More and more brands align with their customers and environmental demands by making plug-in vehicles of their own.

Clearly, the leader in the electric car industry is Tesla, with Elon Musk being the richest man in the world as of 2021. His newest release, the Tesla Model Y has redefined what's possible when it comes to a small, practical, and attractive SUV. Another car manufacturer that solely produces electric cars is Fisker, which releases a new ride in 2022. Let's look at the main differences between the Tesla Model Y and the upcoming Fisker Ocean to decide which is the better EV.

The Main Differences On The Specification List

The Fisker Ocean seems to be very close competition for the Tesla Model Y. The Ocean is futuristic in design and reflects Henrik Fisker's design experience for luxury cars. Henrik Fisker has worked on the BMW Z8 and Aston Martin DB9 cars in recent years.

Fisker's design expertise has projected onto the new Fisker Ocean, but it all-electric instead of petrol-powered. For the Tesla Model Y, Elon Musk has also decided to release his new all-electric car with its brand aligning futuristic feel. On the outside, it is compact and ever so minimal.

Underneath the exterior frame is what really counts. Henrik has decided to install an 80-kilowatt-hour battery pack for the Fisker Ocean that can offer up to 300 miles in range before needing to recharge. For the Tesla Model Y, Elon has fitted the new model with Tesla’s third-generation Superchargers capable of 250kW charging and a range of up to 315 miles. With the range being so close and one of the most crucial features of an electric car, the competition sure is on.

Both models were due to release soon but have been pushed back to 2022. So, there is a lot of time for the all-electric rides to prove themselves and max out their range abilities.

Appearance-wise, both are fairly comparable. Each design boasts impressive modern SUV features, such as huge wheels, a seamless yet robust body, and low and luxurious headlights. Both are extremely minimal and almost seamless, with no stuck out handles or parts, except the wing mirrors.

Interior Differences

Both electric SUVs have gone for complete minimalism for their interior design. Each boasts touchscreen displays that contain all of the car's key functions, such as AC, heating, music playback, and self-driving hardware.

The Fisker Ocean offers a bit more in terms of display, with a 16-inch main screen and a 9.8-inch cluster screen for augmented reality entertainment. The Tesla Model Y screen has stuck true to its root with a 15-inch one frame display.

The Tesla interior design offers a more futuristic feel, with nothing more than a steering wheel and screen to look at. Whereas the Fisker Ocean has additional buttons and a small dashboard screen. So whether you are a complete minimalist or not, this may make up your decision if you are all for car interiors.

Performance Details

Fisker hopes to exceed Tesla's 0 to 62 mph time, hoping that the Ocean will reach 62 mph in under 3 seconds. Currently, the Telsa Model Y reports that it will reach speeds of 62. mph in 3.5 seconds. If the team Fisker manages to pull this out of its performance, it may be the winning feature in this competition. We will have to wait until 2022 to see if it can hit its target.

More tests need to be complete to suggest how fast these electric cars can go. To note, previous Fisker models, such as the Karma, have reached maximum speeds of 201km/h. Tesla's top speed has maxed out at 320km/h in the model S.

What Do They Cost?

Surprisingly, the Fisker Ocean is miles more affordable than the Tesla Model Y. The Ocean is due to release at a starting point of $37,499, and the Tesla Model Y will start at $41,990. These prices will vary if you decide to add upgrades. Yet, the Fisker is still considerably cheaper and may make you sway towards this if you are looking for a more affordable electric SUV.

Which Is A Better EV?

The competition between the Fisker Ocean and Tesla Model Y is pretty close. Both offer an impressive range, speed, horsepower, and entertainment system. They are similar in design, with Tesla complying with its utterly futuristic interior and the Fisker Ocean is a little more button-orientated.

If you want a final decision, it may need to be down to the price difference. With the Fisker Ocean offering almost the same performance and specs as the Tesla Model Y, it may be a winner for a more affordable price. As you are also aware, Fisker hopes to exceed Tesla's 0 to 62 mph speed. If it does, then the Fisker Ocean may have gone above and beyond what Tesla is offering.

In summary, both are extremely impressive all-electric SUVs and offer similar specs and appearance. If it is down to the range and minimal features, the Tesla Model Y may be for you. But, if you want to save some money and get more instant power, the Fisker Ocean might be more suitable. It is all down to personal preference, but both are due to release in 2022, so you've got to make a fairly quick decision.
