Lately, it seems that not a day goes by where we are not treated to the unveiling of yet another electric pickup truck, and the already-crowded new segment looks to have gained another new member. With a simple tweet from the CEO of Fisker, Henrik Fisker, we were treated to the image of an electric pickup from the Southern California-based manufacturer. The tweet in question showed a picture of a Fisker "Alaska" pickup truck from the rear with the simple title, “Electric Pick up!” But not sooner had the pic been tweeted than it was summarily deleted.

Fisker’s tweet, whether a Freudian slip or a simple faux-pas, went viral immediately of course. When asked about the tweet, the CEO simply stated, “Sorry mistake: will delete”. When contacted by Car and Driver, a Fisker spokesperson had this to say: "We can't confirm the model or name of a vehicle that may have been seen in the tweet. We can, however, confirm that Fisker Inc. is indeed working on a modular electric vehicle platform that may underpin several different affordable EV models in the future." So much for clarity.

The news (or rumors or speculation) that Fisker is currently developing a pickup truck caught most folks in the industry by surprise, especially since the company is gearing up to bring their electric Ocean SUV to Geneva in March. In the absence of any other relevant information about the upcoming truck, we can only surmise about its details and other features. And, precious little can be gathered by examining the one photo that was released, or erroneously tweeted, whichever you choose to believe.

The “Alaska” pickup truck looks like a brawny and angular vehicle, quite stylish and inline with Fisker’s other offerings. The aforementioned and unexpectedly sudden logjam in the electric truck category has seen offerings from both established and novice manufacturers, including Tesla (Cybertruck), Rivian (R1T), GMC Hummer, Bollinger (B2) and Nikola (Badger). We can now add Fisker’s Alaska to this list, sure to be joined by others in the near future. Happily, the big winners in this epic battle of electric trucks are the consumers, spoiled by choice.
