In recent years celebrities such as Micheal Jordan and Pitbull have bought ownership stakes in NASCAR teams, but by no means does this secure their success. Floyd Mayweather may be one of the greatest boxers ever, but even that doesn't carry over to every sport. Motorsport not only relies on the skills of the driver but also team management, engineers, and pit crew. The retired boxer, who refers to himself as "the champ," has turned his focus to the NASCAR track. Now the owner of The Money Team Racing, the athlete hopes to contend for points and places in the 2022 season. It's unknown what the team hopes to do beyond the 2022 season, but a new entry into the field is always exciting to watch. The retired boxer's bold-looking car has one of NASCAR's rising stars at the wheel.

What Is The Money Team Racing?

Abbreviated as TMTR and owned by Floyd Mayweather, they are the latest addition to the NASCAR track. TMTR has taken the number 50 car, perhaps a reference to his 50-0 boxing record. William Auchmoody is the team's general manager.

According to AP News, Auchmoody suggests the team will run in four races beyond Daytona and focus on the street races in the calendar. For now, this new team is whetting their appetite for NASCAR and learning the ropes. A wise move, as other teams purchased by celebrities such as Micheal Jordan's 23XI Racing receive rebrandings but go largely unchanged. However, Mayweather's team is all new and unproven.

The name TMTR has floated around the NASCAR space for a little while now. The team's Twitter account has actively posted since 2020. But with COVID disrupting the world at large, even though NASCAR returned in the October of 2020, getting a car to the track will only first be possible in the 2022 season. The team operates out of Mooresville, North Carolina, and is to drive the Chevy Camaro ZL1 NASCAR.

Will The Money Team Racing Be Successful?

Fortunately for Mayweather, TMTR has secured sponsorship in the form of Pit Viper, a sunglasses brand. The company specializes in polarized frames. TMTR uses a subtle and lavish-looking gold and black color scheme. But with a sponsor known for their bold use of color, NASCAR fans successfully speculated that a bright livery will make its way to the track in exchange for more funds. Unveiled across social media on February 4, this bold livery will turn heads on the track. Mayweather has incredible wealth, but even he will need a hand to run a team and Pit Viper are there to help.

Another aspect going in Mayweather's favor is his choice of driver, Kaz Grala. A rising star in NASCAR. According to TMTR, his stock car career began at only 14 years old and this led the way to him becoming the youngest ever winner at Daytona. With Covid taking other drivers out of races Grala stepped up to drive the N0.3 car, an honor for NASCAR drivers and a sign of his budding talent.

Grala will need all the help he can get, though. TMTR doesn't have a charter to guarantee entry into every race like Richard Petty Motorsports or Starcom Racing. Grala must work closely with his new team to qualify in the 42 car field. The next race is on February the 20th, the Daytona 500. If Mayweather's team can qualify and compete here they'll be set to make quite the splash at one of NASCAR's most famous races.
