Ding-a-ling-a-ling. Ding-a-ling-a-ling. There's something simple, pure, and elemental about that sound, isn't there? Sure it drives us crazy when childhood gives way to adulthood but that simple little tune tugs at us in ways we seldom give a thought much less understand. And there's nothing better than an ice cream cone with chocolate crunchies on a hot day, right? I think Eddie Murphy summed it up best. Check it out.
Well, if you've ever wanted to recapture your youth, or perhaps embark on a new career direction, then have I got a deal for you. I love trolling for sale ads in my area, Long Island, NY to be precise, and I just noticed this little gem. Up for sale on Craigslist is a 2001 Ford F350 Utility Master Ice Cream truck. It has 110,000 miles on the odometer with a list price of $48,000.
While it might seem like a steep up-front cost you are getting a lot for it. First off, the truck appears to be well-kept with a new diesel Yanmar generator to keep everything cool, full stainless cabin, 2 separate refrigerators (one high, one low), one Electro-Freeze ice cream machine, 4 sinks, tons of custom storage spots and cubby holes, and a backup camera. It cost $80,000 for the original customization plus the price of the truck.
According to the ad, the seller's grandfather operated the vehicle and since he passed away the family has no intention to use it. It was just inspected so it's in drive away condition. The seller cites an income figure of $600 per day just cruising around the neighborhood in the summer, which is pretty good. With a beach or county park contract, you could probably get more but that could just be puffery.
To sweeten the pot, the seller will throw in training for the operation of the vehicle and all of the various ice cream systems. That's certainly a sweet deal ... get it? a sweet deal?!?!? And while I'm partial to Ben and Jerry's "Coffee, Coffee BuzzBuzzBuzz!", I've always enjoyed a nice cup of soft serve. MMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmm, that hit the spot. Buckle up.
