Founded in 1977, Callaway Cars, Inc. is a specialty car manufacturer made famous for designing, manufacturing, and installing high-performance parts for a range of vehicles, in particular the Corvette. Today they offer an assortment of go-fast packages for GM vehicles, manufacture racing cars and support racing teams, and offer comprehensive installation and servicing at several locations around the world.

Development vehicles and test-mules are churned out by car manufacturers and specialty houses to develop and test components and packages for eventual adoption in road-going cars. Callaway is no different. For sale today at a price of $49,000 is one of their workhorses ... and she looks great with 275k miles on the odometer.

The 2010 Callaway SC606 Grand Sport Corvette pictured above and below is advertised as the first supercharged Grand Sport with a very desirable early VIN. She was used for promotional campaigns and web and marketing materials, and has been well-maintained throughout her life. She started out as a Grand Sport Corvette in Crystal Red Metallic and ebony interior with a top-trim 3LT package, 6.2 liter engine, 6-speed manual transmission, heavy-duty cooling, power and heated seats, and head's up display.

The Callaway SC606 treatment added a TVS2300 supercharger, liquid to air intercooler, upgraded fuel injectors, Callaway intake, free-flow exhaust, bucket seats, Callaway designed full-aero package, short-throw shifter, suspension package, and the requisite Callaway badges and emblems throughout.

The car was also used as a development and durability mule to meet the 100,000 mile benchmark. But Callaway quickly passed that figure and she kept right on going, quite happily. She has minor wear, as you'd expect from a car with this many miles, but as one of the company's showpieces she has been meticulously maintained.

It's hard to believe that the car has 275,000 miles. That is both a testament to the quality and installation of the Callaway package and the robust platform of the Chevy Corvette itself. High-end sports cars such as the Corvette sometimes get a bad wrap and generally the class is known for exorbitant repair bills and frequent breakdowns. But it just goes to show you that with proper care and attention your sports car can deliver year's of use.

Would I buy it for $49k? Probably not because at that price point a host of other cars are available. Plus, I'd rather have the benefit of a new car warranty. But I firmly believe that there is a car for everyone out there. Maybe it's you!? Buckle up.
