The Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler are two of the best cars in their category. Two very good off-roading SUVs that look good, and are hugely popular among consumers. But how will they fare in a drag race on dirt? Well, to find out, the guys from Edmunds have brought the 2021 Bronco together with the 2018 Wrangler to see if the Ford or the Jeep has the advantage over the other. This is a bit of a battle between two heavyweight off-roaders.

Getting Ready For The Drag Races

Edmunds are quite keen to see how the Bronco, which is still basically brand new, compares against the Wrangler which has had around 70,000 miles on the clock with them. And Edmunds say they are hard miles as well. It has been the Edmunds support vehicle for years. It could be close, but equally, this could be the Bronco’s all day long. The Bronco has 330 hp from its 2.7-liter turbo V6 engine. The Wrangler meanwhile has 285 hp, from its 3.6-liter and naturally aspirated V6 engine. But it is nearly 1,000 lbs lighter than the Bronco.

Race one gets underway, but the Wrangler gets the jump over the Bronco. The Bronco then starts to haul past the Wrangler, but it is pretty close to the finish line. And that was all in the start. Impressive to see the Wrangler hold its own for so long, but that EcoBoost from the Bronco certainly came in handy. You can’t argue with extra power. But, there are two more races to run, so let's see if the Jeep can get one back at the Ford. It certainly has a fighting chance.

The Wrangler Seeks Revenge

The Wrangler is very much seeking revenge against the Bronco. And it does get another very good start, and amazingly it holds off the Bronco even longer than in the first race. This is despite the Bronco actually getting a better start, but the Ford off-roader is bogging down quite a lot at the start. Now, though, it is time for round three, a rolling race. The cars line up and put the power down, but without the bogging down at the start, the Bronco gets away easily to make it an easy third win over the Wrangler. But the Jeep still held its own in the first two races.
