Electric pickup trucks are quite a novelty in the automotive world. In fact, only a few EV truck models are on the road. Of those rare few, one of them is the Ford F-150 Lightning. Surely, the American carmaker didn’t build the F-150 Lightning to be quick and fast. However, YouTuber Michael Brink of the Brink of Speed channel wants to find out if this Ford is quick enough to challenge a Chevrolet C8 Corvette.

A Challenge First Of Its Kind

For this challenge, Brink brought his own Chevrolet C8 Corvette – in Captain America color scheme -- to his favorite parking lot. It will challenge the first Ford F-150 Lightning EV truck in Texas that belongs to fellow YouTuber Why Envy. According to Brink, this drag and roll race (although clearly not over a quarter mile) between the F-150 Lightning and the C8 Corvette would be the very first.

This was a very interesting challenge. After all, it’s just an ICE (internal combustion engine) against an EV, but also a legitimate sports car against a pickup truck. Their creators built them differently for different purposes. Chevrolet built the C8 Corvette for dynamic quickness and speed. On the other hand, Ford developed the F-150 Lightning mainly as a workhorse. However, its quickness comes as a by-product of its electric powertrain.

In terms of power, the F-150 Lightning and the C8 Corvette seemed to be a good match. All F-150 Lightning models feature two electric motors (for an all-wheel drive system) that could provide 452 hp of output and 775 lb-ft of torque with the Standard-Range battery. Equipping the F-150 Lightning with the Extended-Range battery hikes output to 580 hp. This EV truck is pretty heavy weighing more than 6,000 lbs.

On the other hand, Brink’s C8 Corvette features a 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V-8 engine that makes 490 hp of max output and 470 lb-ft of peak torque thanks to the addition of a cat-back exhaust. In terms of power output, the C8 Corvette has the advantage. However, the F-150 Lightning has 65% more torque which is accessible instantly. With that in mind, the C8 Corvette has a massive weight advantage at just 3,647 lbs.

F-150 Lightning Loses, But Shows Its Quickness

The C8 Corvette came out as the winner of both the drag race and roll contest. Although the runs cover just a very short distance, they show that the F-150 Lightning is really a quick truck. It may not win against the C8 Corvette but it won’t lose easily.
