The Ford Bronco SUV was originally produced between 1965 and 1996 in several different sizes and generations. It proved to be wildly popular and has something of a cult following nowadays with restomods, on-offs and survivors regularly appearing on the auction and show car circuit. And with the announcement that Ford is set to release an all-new version, Bronco aficionados should be a happy lot indeed.

Apparently, however, none of this has quenched the Bronco thirst of Weatherford, Texas native David Stockman and his quest to build a beefier custom Franken-Bronco all his own. It's half Ford F-250 and half Ford Excursion, welded up and given an expert customization. It looks like the Super Duty Bronco of your dreams, if Ford ever made one. Let's check out David's Franken-Bronc and see what makes it so special.

The Ford Frankenstein

David started by "cutting the Excursion, cutting the Ford F-250, and welding back the former’s frame to the front of the latter’s." David figured that "it’d be a lot easier to cut it and paste it together than to pull the wiring out, to try to adapt the wiring into that old Excursion body." Sounds simple enough but the proportions of the two vehicles hardly made the swap easy. Luckily, David has coachbuilding experience which brought the project squarely within his area of expertise.

Ambitious Build

The rest of the project required bits and pieces throughout the Ford passenger and commercial truck portfolio, and by what was available in the local junkyard. Don't you just love picking parts?! With a set of suicide doors from a Ford donor truck, hood from another F-250 with some tricking out, custom graphics, and "SUPER BRONCO" hood lettering, this is light year's beyond a backyard sawzall job.

The Finished Product

Well, you can see for yourself above. The fit and finish not only look excellent but David is to be applauded for his restrained vision. He didn't go too over the top with wild customizations but rather hewed closely to the lines of the Excursion and F-250 with something that looks unmistakably like a Bronco. Perhaps Ford might roll out a Super Duty Bronco in the future? We can always dream, can't we?! Buckle up.
