Check Out The Ford Focus RS RX's Launching Power On Top Of Soap

In a new video, we get to see how fast the Focus RS RX rally car can launch itself off of a road covered in dish soap.

Rally cars are no stranger to strange environments. These cars normally race in dirt, mud, and gravel, and occasionally find themselves someplace exotic where they have to contend with snow, ice, or even on special occasions, sand.

But never has a rally car needed to launch itself out of a specifically prepared launch pad that has been covered in dish detergent.

Now, thanks to the boys over at The Hoonigans YouTube channel, we know just how well a Focus RS RX can handle itself when its tires are covered in soap.

The Focus RS RX is a very impressive car. Compared to the normal Focus RS, Its 2.0-L turbocharged four-banger goes from 350 hp up to a whopping 650 hp. How Ford Performance managed to squeeze so much power from such a tiny engine is a mystery for the ages.

Zero to sixty is usually in the sub-2-seconds range when it's on pavement, and maybe a few tenths of a second later when it’s on something else. On dish soap, the Focus’ dash time is anybody’s guess, but we’re thinking it’s going to be slower. Much slower.

In order to create their experiment, the Hoonigans constructed a launch platform made out of plywood. Extremely strong plywood that was then adhered to the pavement of a parking lot so that when the 650 hp monster hatchback let it rip on a dry run, it didn’t send shards of wood at the waiting camera crew.

Without soap, the Focus managed to reach the end of the platform (let’s call it 50 feet or so) in 1.32 seconds. After that, the boys poured buckets of Dawn dish soap into the platform until there was a layer of blue detergent. Then they brought the Focus back for round two.

They expected the Focus to be slower, by it was almost four times slower reaching the end as its tires spun uselessly on the slick surface. The new time was 4.93 seconds.

It’s a silly thing, but this is what happens when you give a bunch of grown men a 650 hp rally car and way too much time and money.
