The Mach-1 Mustang was one of the original variants of the Mustang and in 2020, it’s become a much-loved icon. Classic Mustangs just resonate with people, especially MK1 models. Production of the last batch ended in 2004, but a new, limited edition variant of the car is making its return in 2021. And today, Ford Motor Company has announced that the version will make its way to European markets.

A Mach 1 In Europe

via Ford Europe

This the first time the Mach-1 has actually been available in Europe, and it's making its debut at this week's Goodwood SpeedWeek event in West Sussex, UK. Sadly, it's in front of a virtual audience, but we are still able to see the car put through its paces. The car will be powered by a 460 PS 5.0-liter V8 engine, which harks right back to the good ol' days of the original Mach 1.

It will be available with a high-performance TREMEC six-speed manual gearbox, and there is also a 10-speed automatic transmission variant that will also be available. This is the fastest production Mustang ever around a track that has been offered to customers in Europe, and the body shape has been designed to echo the Mach-1s of the 1960s and 1970s. There are eight body color and stripe combinations to choose from for the car.

Reviving A Legend

The Mustang Mach 1 chief program engineer for Europe, Matthias Tonn, said, “The original Mach 1 delivered the ultimate in production Mustang performance and proved itself with success in motorsport ... The new Mach 1 is the most capable Mustang ever to reach Europe, with the track-ready ability and a unique style that is more than worthy of wearing such a legendary badge.” More than 300,000 Mach 1s have been produced since 1969, and this car will add to that impressive number.
