It's been 15 years since Ford put Land Rover and Jaguar up for another adoption. Ford as a brand itself continues to dominate in volume sales and performance with the all-powerful Mustang. It seems Jaguar has been rather left behind and that includes at the drag strip.

Automotive YouTuber Cars with Pilot Tseno recently documented what happens when a Jaguar F-Type S drag races a Ford Mustang on the 1/4 mile.

The Ford Mustang Claims Total Victory Against The Jaguar F-Type S

The F-Type S uses a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 with 400 hp and 340 lb-ft of torque. The Mustang, on the other hand, is a 2017 GT model that packs a 5.0-liter naturally-aspirated V8 with a tune and intake to make 460 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. The F-Type S comes equipped with an 8-speed automatic, whereas the Mustang's automatic transmission is a 10-speed.

Besides the supercharger, it may seem Jaguar's only advantage is its slightly smaller size and weight of 3,637 lb. This leaves it 110 lbs lighter than the 3,747 lb. Mustang.

With all the specifications in mind, it's still no surprise the Ford Mustang takes off the line quicker and maintains its lead for the rest of the 1/4 mile. The first race has the Mustang finishing the 1/4 mile in 13.23 seconds at 109.3 mph. The F-Type S completed finished the 1/4 mile in 13.32 seconds at 106.8 mph.

The second race reflected a similar launch pattern. The Mustang dominated the lead, getting to 62 mph in 5.07 seconds, and finishing the 1/4 mile in 13.18 seconds at 109.3 mph. The F-Type S reached 62 mph in 5.05 seconds and finished the 1.4 mile in 13.24 seconds at 107.5 mph.

Despite the total defeat, the tiny margin of difference in these numbers is still an impressive feat for the Jaguar F-Type S. Its smaller, yet supercharged engine and inferior specifications make for only a tenth of a second slower than the Mustang. Especially when the F-Type S is a smaller car taking on a bigger name as well, it all seems admirable until one accounts for its price.

For the 2017 model year, the base F-Type starts at $62,395. Comparatively, The 2017 Ford Mustang GT starts at $33,545. Purchasing an F-Type means paying for a smaller car that is a tenth of a second slower and almost double the price. This may ultimately contribute to why Jaguar is discontinuing the F-Type platform in 2024. Those interested in an F-Type while the car remains available might want to consider a Mustang instead.
