Check out these races between a Dodge Challenger Scat Pack 1320 and a Ford Mustang GT.

Welcome back to Mission Park Raceway in sunny BC, Canada. Yes, winter might be approaching, but it’s not here yet and that means there’s still time for racing.

On the left we have a Dodge Challenger Scat Pack 1320, the special package that upgrades the usual R/T Scat Pack with drag race tech straight out of the legendary Demon. Torque reserve, line lock, and launch control are all standard features on the 1320 to give it the best possible performance off the line.

Everything else is the same as the top-tier naturally aspirated Challenger, which means a 6.4-L HEMI V8 under the hood with 485 hp and 476 lb-ft of torque. Power gets routed through a 6-speed manual transmission (an 8-speed automatic is an available extra) to the rear wheels where it propels the car to quarter-mile times in the 11-second range. Which is very fast and good for a naturally aspirated car.

On the right, we have the Ford Mustang GT. A 5.0-L Coyote V8 continues to be the thrumming heart of the Mustang with 460 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque This might make it seem like it’s strictly outclassed by the Challenger, but note that the Mustang weighs a good 700 lbs less than the Challenger giving it a better power-to-weight ratio.

So which one is faster? Let’s see.

In our first race, the green Mustang GT couldn’t possibly be stock as it ran a 10.5, which is better than a 700-hp Dodge Hellcat in terms of quarter-mile time. It’s also noteworthy as the Mustang beat the Scat Pack despite the fact the Challenger driver quite obviously jumped the light.

Our next matchup against the black Mustang appears to be a stock-on-stock battle and thus a better comparison. The Mustang and Challenger are basically neck and neck down the entire strip. Check out the video above to see how these two muscle cars match up.
