Watch Ford Mustang GT Take On Dodge Challenger Scat Pack 1320 In Drag Race Action

Challenger Mustang GT

Check out this quarter-mile shootout between a Ford Mustang GT and a Dodge Challenger Scat Pack 1320.

Since the Chevy Camaro is due to be phased out in the next few years, that leaves just the Ford Mustang and the Dodge Challenger as America’s muscle cars. So, to get us prepared for the eventual day that we will only see these two icons on the drag strip, here is a Mustang GT and a Dodge Scat Pack duking it out for drag race supremacy.

But this is no ordinary Challenger Scat Pack. This Challenger has the new 1320 package making it the fastest naturally-aspirated muscle car in the world (Dodge’s words, not ours). Under the hood is the same 6.4-L HEMI V8 we’ve come to expect from big Dodges, producing 485 horsepower and 476 lb-ft of torque, but attached to it are a whole bunch of drag race goodies taken directly from the Dodge Demon.

Line lock? Check. TransBrake? Check. Torque Reserve? Check. Adaptive, drag-race-tuned suspension with Drag Mode? Check and double-check. Top it off with a set of drag radials in the back and a wrap to protect the quarter panel’s paint and you got yourself one heckuva drag racer.

The Ford GT is no slouch either. With 460 horses from its 5.0-L Coyote V8, the Mustang certainly wins the power-to-weight competition clocking in at a full 700 lbs lighter than the Challenger. And while the GT does have launch control, it doesn't have the same set of Demon tech as the Challenger.

The first race has a good start from both muscle cars, but the Challenger gets a bit of an edge off the line. That edge gets maintained all the way to the 1,320-foot mark, where the Challenger posts a final time of 11.98 seconds at 113.47 mph. The Mustang comes in a third of a second behind at 12.27 seconds at 115.87 mph.
