When talking about the Shelby GT500, Ford really nailed it when it comes to making the ultimate American sports car. With its supercharged V8 making 760 hp and a price tag of around $80,000, it is one of the best bangs for your buck when it comes to automotive performance. With that in mind, many other sports car brands from Europe want to challenge the muscle car to show America who is the top dog.

In a new video by YouTube channel Automotive Mike, The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 takes on Ferrari, Porsche, Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz AMG in several quick drag races at the Supercar Madness at Circuit Assen in the Netherlands.

Ford Versus Ferrari

After a few revs from the legendary supercharged 5.2-liter cross-plane crank V8 in the Shelby GT500, the car lines up with a black Ferrari 488 GTB. While the turbocharged 3.9-liter V8 in the Ferrari is a bit down on power with 661 hp, the Italian exotic is a lot lighter than the Shelby weighing in at only 3,251 lbs. A 2022 Ford Shelby GT500 weighs in at over 4,000 lbs. depending on options.

Even with the odds stacked against America in this race, the Shelby gets an incredible launch and leaves the Ferrari in the dust with no hope of catching up.

After that victory, a BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe wants a piece of the Shelby. Although the BMW is down on power and weighs more than the Shelby, it does have the advantage of an all-wheel drive system. This advantage gives the M8 a victory, but you can see the Shelby start to catch up.

The next contender is a Porsche 911 with some wild decals and paint. While we don't know the exact Porsche model, it does appear to be a 991-generation GT3 model. If that's the case, the car makes an impressive 493 hp from its flat-6 engine.

The main advantage of the GT3 is how the engine sits over the rear axle, giving it maximum traction during acceleration. However, the Porsche is not able to get away from the Shelby in this race.

Lastly, a 715-HP Mercedes-Benz E63 S AMG pulls up next. The AMG has the all-wheel drive advantage like the BMW and is able to take down the Shelby with ease. While traction is usually a limiting factor with rear wheel drive cars and big power, the Shelby still held its own against some of Europe's best (and more expensive) sports cars.
