Ford seems to be on a bit of a roll at the moment. The American car company recently unveiled a plethora of new models. The new 2023 Mustang was a big highlight, not only in its road going form but also with the new GT Racer for the Australian Supercars Championship. Then of course we had the Super Duty pickup, with a whole new generation coming for 2023. Finally, we had the last special edition of the Ford GT, the GT LM Special Edition.

Ford are loving life at the moment, and it doesn’t stop there either. The brand of course sells plenty of electric vehicles now, with the electric Transit, the F-150 Lightning and the Mustang Mach-E big parts of their sales success over 2022. Amazingly, Ford has just become the second-best selling EV brand in the United States, as the brand's sales triple in the month of September and the sales of Mach-E climb higher than ever before. Ford has had perhaps one of the most successful months in its recent history, and we are going to dive into how it was all done.

Ford claim in their September 2022 sales report that their electric vehicle sales are actually outpacing the segment. What they see is that sales of the vehicles are up some 197.3 percent, a truly staggering figure. Ford also go on to say that their share of the EV segment was up in September by 3.1 percentage points over the last year with a 7.0 percent share. It is the sales of the Mach-E though that are perhaps the most impressive as the electric Mustang SUV continues to go from strength to strength.

The report from Ford states that sales of the Mustang Mach-E increased by some 47.3 percent over last year, while also turning in just 10 days maximum on dealer lots. This is a truly staggering achievement and shows the popularity of the Mach-E is certainly not slowing down. Since its launch in June, the F-150 Lightning has also seen steady and consistent sales and some 8,760 units of the electric pickup truck were thus sold since the launch of the truck. The Lightning also remains one of Ford’s fastest-turning vehicles on dealer lots, even quicker than the Mach-E at just 8 days.

Electric Transit Van Sales Also Continue To Climb

Ford has not just had success with the Mach-E and the F-150 Lightning though. The E-Transit was recently launched too, and sales of that are also slowly but surely increasing. The E-Transit right now is America’s top-selling electric commercial van, and Ford say that that van represents a 90% share of the overall electric van market, another impressive statistic for the company. Throughout September alone, Ford sold a remarkable 4,387 electric vans, and like with the Mach-E, that number will no doubt continue to grow and grow as time goes on.

New York City also recently announced that its fleet now has a total of 200 Mustang Mach-Es, while the city has also made the largest purchase of medium-duty EVs with the order of 300 E-Transits and F-150 Lightnings, to really boost the sales of both models of vehicle. The F-150 Lightning itself continued as the best-selling pickup truck in America throughout September, alongside that of the E-Transit in the van segment. Demand is clearly very high for Ford’s electric vehicles, but sales of its other products including hybrid vehicles continue to go up and up too.

Hybrid Vehicles Also A Key Part Of Ford’s September 2022 Sales

The figure for hybrid sales from Ford throughout September 2022 is very impressive. Ford says that their hybrid vehicle sales totaled 74,046 throughout the month, with year-to-date sales up some 22.6 percent compared to this time last year. Sales of the F-150 and Maverick hybrids have been very strong and of course they represent America’s best-selling hybrid trucks at this moment in time. The Maverick truck itself amazingly turned on dealer lots in just 6 days, with sales of the Maverick up some 523 percent, highlighting just how good a month September has been for Ford.

On top of all this, sales of the Bronco SUV also went up 221 percent, with 10,892 sold in September. Some 99 percent of those retail sales came from previously placed orders for the month as well. So it's been a hugely successful time for Ford, but particularly in the electric vehicle segment. It is quite astonishing just how much sales of the likes of the Mach-E and E-Transit have increased over the last month, showing not only the desire for an electric vehicle, but just how highly regarded the electric products from Ford are right now.
