You may well have noticed that 2020 is becoming something of an electric year for the Ford Mustang – and yes, that pun was indeed intended. There is of course the Ford Mustang Mach-E arriving later this year, as well as the Cobra Jet 1400 and the Mach-E 1400 too. It's the Cobra Jet 1400 version that we're going to be looking at here. The car recently hit the drag strip at Holley Ford Fest and really showcased just how insane this car actually is.

Engineered Insanity

This car has been engineered to insanity. Ford themselves say that it was to shatter towering performance goals and to avoid using a drop of fuel while doing so. And, if you haven’t guessed already, the car produces 1,400bhp. In fact, if we're to be really precise about it, the car produces 1502 wheel horsepower at its peak. That is insane! It can blast through the quarter-mile in just 8.27 seconds and, in doing so, reaches a speed of 168mph. That puts any petrol-powered Mustang to shame.

Now, back to the video of the car at Holley Ford Festival. Well, it certainly confused and bemused most Ford fans, who are probably used to just gasoline-powered Mustangs taking to the drag strip! The goal of the car was to be basically an extreme electric version of the original Cobra Jet, and Ford Performance attended the Holley Ford Fest to simply see how far they could push the car and see how fast it would go.

An Expensive Venture For Ford

Ford is spending a whopping $11.5 billion on electric cars, which also includes the all-electric F-150 pickup truck, so attending the Festival was in essence a test exercise to gather even more data on the electric car for Ford to then utilize going forward. The car is not just a showpiece, though it does an awesome job at that! The car is a testbed, with four motors and all of that crazy horsepower, it’s a car to keep an eye on.
