The 2019 Range Raptor gets showcased in this delightful cutaway animation that shows off its powertrain.

Technology is wonderful, isn’t it? It used to be we had to see someone physically take a car and sheer it in half for us to know how it all works. Now we can just animate that sort of thing using the magic of computers.

Take this video of the upcoming 2019 Ranger Raptor. It’s a slick looking pickup truck, but take away the aggressive exterior and it’s an even more amazing bundle of wires, cylinders, and moving parts to make any engineer get all tingly in the nether regions.

After taking away the shiny blue exterior, we’re sent straight into the Raptor’s twin-turbo diesel engine. And by “straight into” we mean that literally as the camera zooms into one of the turbochargers for an inside look at how they work in tandem depending on what the Raptor is doing.

At low engine speeds, both turbochargers work at the same time for maximum torque, while at higher engine speeds only the low-pressure turbo is operating to provide boost and power. It’s an interesting setup that isn’t shared among too many cars, let alone any pickup trucks.

The engine itself is a 2.0-L twin-turbo diesel that puts out 211 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. That’s plenty of torque for pulling, but the power seems a little light for the North American market. This particular Raptor shown in the video seems to be for the Australian market given the narrator’s accent and the right-hand steering wheel.

We got our first glimpse at what the Ranger will come with here in North America when Ford’s configurator went live a week early accidentally. There was no mention of the turbodiesel engine or the Raptor. Instead, we have a 2.3-L turbocharged EcoBoost inline 4-cylinder taken straight out of the Mustang and Focus RS. Power will be more in line with North American expectations, which is 310 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque.

If we do get a Raptor Ranger, expect it to get an even bigger engine and even more power.
