We all knew it was coming. The electric revolution is very much on the way and has been for some time. Governments worldwide are looking at producing only electric cars in the not too distant future, and it doesn’t stop at just the family car. Companies are now producing all manner of electric vehicles. These include commuter cars, sports cars, hypercars, and now vans. Ford has revealed specs of the 2022 Ford E-Transit van, a major step forward in electric vehicle development.

It may be too late for that big Amazon contract, that went to Rivian but Amazon isn't the only game in town, yet. And following the old adage "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em", Ford has since invested $500 million in Rivian, but are mum about how that impacts this project.

Ford says that the Transit is the best-selling commercial van brand in the United States, and they also say it will lead the business into the future thanks to its electric power. It is in essence, simply your regular Transit van with electric power. Make that "vans" as there will be three roof heights, three body lengths, as well as a chassis cab and cutaway models.

This gives rise to possible camping applications. But one other thing that is important for any van, is whether it is accommodating or not.

And Ford is making it as accommodating as possible. The interior is highly functional, with a totally redesigned center console with a brand new rotary shifter and an e-brake on the instrument panel. And when it comes to charging, one can easily imagine the charging depots a company could arrange for their fleet. For smaller tradesmen, there is home charging thanks to the 240V Ford mobile charger, that will come standard with every vehicle.
