Ford is taking on Ram’s Power Wagon with the all-new Tremor off-road package for the 2020 F-Series Super Duty pickup.

For years, if you wanted a truly big pickup with off-road features, you were forced into the Ram Power Wagon. That wasn’t necessarily a bad thing as the Ram Power Wagon is a fantastic pickup, but free-market economists would argue that competition is healthy for any segment, so we’re not going to complain when Ford decides that the Power Wagon has had enough time as the only heavy-duty off-road pickup.

So we have the F-Series Super Duty “Tremor,” a package option that will be available on certain Super Duty trims that turns the heavy-duty Ford into a true off-roader. Tremor adds all-terrain enhancements to the suspension, axles, wheels, and tires to ensure whichever Super Duty you choose is ready for anything.

The 2020 F-Series Super Duty is delivering next-level capability in an all-new way – the Tremor Off-Road Package. Tremor pushes the boundaries of Super Duty off-road capability with new hardware and tech to handle rough terrain, providing greater towing and payload than Ram Power Wagon. This is the most capable off-road Super Duty ever.

Starting at the wheels, each one is an 18-inch matte-black rim wrapped in 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac all-terrain tires--the biggest ever fitted to a production heavy-duty pickup. Those wheels are attached to a suspension that has been given a 2-inch lift, progressive rate springs, and a rear stabilizer bar that has been tuned to reduce head toss when tumbling over bumpy ground.

Custom 1.7-inch piston twin-tube dampers provide a smooth ride over any kind of terrain, whether it’s the open road, an open field, or a pockmarked forest trail that has seen better days.

Ground clearance is an impressive 10.8 inches, with approach and departure angles being 31.65 degrees and 24.51 degrees, respectively.

Further enhancing off-road performance is an electronic locking rear differential and a Dana limited-slip front differential that will also use the brakes to send power to whichever wheel has the most traction. And for the first time in a Ford Super Duty, the Tremor adds 5 different selectable drive modes: Normal, Tow/Haul, Eco, Slippery (Ice), and Snow/Sand.

Add in Ford’s Trail Control (which is a low-speed cruise control), Rock Control (which is a 4x4-enabled lo-speed mode), and the same beefy skid plates as found on the FX4, and this is a heavy-duty pickup ready for anything.

The Tremor package will be available on XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum trims equipped with 4x4, single-rear-wheel, standard bed, crew cab, and equipped with either Ford’s new 7.3-L V8 or the 6.7-L Power Stroke diesel engine. It’ll be available once the new 2020 F-250 and F-350 goes on sale later this year.
