Ford Teases 2020 Electric Mustang Crossover In New Video

Ford's latest video teases their upcoming electric vehicles, including their Mustang-inspired crossover.

Ford is showcasing the upcoming 2020 electric Mustang-inspired crossover in their latest video series.

Now that Ford is officially teasing the electric crossover they plan to base on the best-selling Mustang sports car, it might be time for them to actually give it a name. We’ve got both Mach 1 and Mach E as possible contenders, with the Mustang faithful threatening pitchforks and torches if the crossover is called Mach 1.

Whatever the electric SUV will be called, what we know about it can fill a thimble. We’ve heard Ford execs say that it’ll have a range of over 370 miles (putting it in excess of the Tesla Model S) and it will be “performance-oriented.” Judging by the latest videos released by Ford, we’re inclined to agree on that last part.

The first video takes us to Smithers Winter Test Center in Michigan. It must have been taken sometime last winter since there’s snow on the ground, and even though Michigan is no Florida, it’s still not covered in snow until at least October (usually). The idea here is to convince people that EVs can indeed handle winter conditions as well as gasoline-powered vehicles.

According to Ford, a recent survey found that just 19% of Americans think an electric car can handle bad weather, and only 28% would pick one over a gas-powered car to get somewhere in an emergency.

On top of that, only 18% felt that electric vehicles were faster than conventional ones, and just 13% said they'd choose an electric pickup over a gas-powered pickup for towing.

Which shows there are a lot of very misinformed people in America. Ford's advertising blitz is aiming to change a few minds.

The second video takes is to Grattan Raceway to show how the upcoming electric crossover can handle both a virtual and real-world track. EVs have long been known to have on-demand torque thanks to their electric motors, and the Mach E (or Mach 1) is shown to be both as nimble and quick as any conventional car.

And if you need to tow something, an electric F-150 should be able to handle a million pounds pretty easily.
