The love of pick- up trucks began in the late 1800’s when Gottlieb Daimler invented the first horseless wagon. From that moment the love of pick- up trucks has grown and flourished. First used by farmers to help them with supplies and used to help transport crops. As time went by improvements were made to the designs of the trucks and by the 1940s- 1960’s their popularity boomed and demand for them grew. In the early 1900’s Both Chevy and Ford began competing with each other. In 1908, Ford sold the Ford Model TT. According to Trucks.com Ford sold 209 trucks in the very first year the truck was released for sale. This began the love of pick up trucks. Each year increasing the production and sales of pickup trucks which has continued into the 21st century.

Ford wasn't alone with creating a pick- up truck. Chevy’s first designed pick- up truck was introduced in 1918 and resembled half a car with a bed in the back. It was a one- ton pick- up. According to Chevrolet, the design allowed the new owner to build to on them allowing the owner to create their own design for the back end. The competition began to grow between both car companies. Each company began topping one another off developing, creating and designing newer pick- up trucks for the public to use for work and for their enjoyment. These two car manufacturers have always been in competition with each other, trying to outsell one another. 20 FORD SUPER DUTY

In 1958 Ford Super Duty was introduced to the public. This truck featured V8 engine and the biggest V8 block ever made by Ford. The engine built by Ford was so good that it was also used by the US Army military for their vehicles.

Ford installed quad headlights, better interior design, and newly designed instrument panel.

According to Blue Oval Tech, Ford also improved the grille and changed the colour of it to white. This pick- up was so popular that production of the Ford Super Duty into 1981. Then in 1987 Ford re-introduced the Super Duty and called it the F-Super Duty.

10 CHEVY C/K

The first generation of the Chevy c/ k were between 1960- 1966. This truck was created with many new features and had different designs. The designs included short 1/2, long 1/2 and 3/4-ton models and had 2 and 4- wheel drive. The trucks came with front suspension, GMC V6 engine with a six-throw crankshaft, GMC even moved the location of the spark plugs to the top of the engine making them easier to access.

As more generations of the Chevy c/ k were developed, even more improvements were made.

The second generation of the Chevy c/ k were produced between 1967–1972. According to Classic Muscle Division of Modern Chevrolet, there were two different designs available the Chevy Stepside and the Chevy Fleetside. 9 CHEVY 454 SS

This vehicle has a 7.4-liter V8 with 230 horsepower into a 1500 chassis. This truck was designed with a shorter bed, Bilstein shocks, and an anti-roll bar. With a four-speed, automatic transmission and can hit up to 60 mph in eight seconds. This is considered a rare Chevy pick-up today. In the three years that GM produced this truck only 16,953 of the ss 454 series was made.

8 CHEVY 3100 TASK FORCE

The Chevrolet 3100 Task Force is a classic pick- up truck. Built from 1955 to 1960, this was the first pick- up truck produced by GM that had power brakes and power steering available. It was also the first to have wraparound windshields. In the years that GM produced this truck, they did make a few changes in the design.

The truck went from having single headlights to having four and was equipped with air conditioning.

7 GMC GT 454 SS

They included a 4.3l, 4.8-l V6 engines and a 5.3-l V8 engine available for their customers. As the series line began to grow it included four-wheel steering system, dynamic brake proportioning system, mobile auxiliary power, and a torque converter for fuel savings. 5 GMC SYCLONE

This pick- up truck is rare and was only produced in 1991 by GM. This truck was only available in the color black and actually made two different versions. This particular pick- up truck took the auto magazines by storm, Car and Driver compared the Syclone to a Ferrari.

It featured a GM 700R4 4-speed automatic and standard transmission, all-wheel drive, and could go from 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds.

This pickup truck was available in two different styles, besides the GMC Syclone, they also made the Marlboro Syclone. The Marlboro Syclone was so impressive that it won the grand prize in the Marlboro Racing ‘92 and also appeared in the Indianapolis 500 the same year.
