We know of Bugatti as the makers of the fastest cars on earth. The automaker has had a very rough history, and the phase before VW's acquisition is still filled with mystery and accusations. Let's leave that aside for now and think about why Bugatti was never able to make a 4-door luxury missile.

They tried several times to woo target audiences, be it with the 1999 EB 218 Concept or the 2009 Galibier 16C Concept. But there was one particular sedan that almost made it to production (well, sort of). The Bugatti EB 112 was created to be a worthy stablemate of the EB 110 before the VW-owned era for Bugatti.

It was an oddity during the time, with a naturally aspirated V12 and four cozy seats. The styling was goofy for the time but was a pleasing throwback to iconic Bugatti cars from the early 1900s. Unlike the other Bugatti 4-door concepts that didn't reach the production phase, the EB 112 was a practical everyday super sedan that was handed out to customers.

The Bugatti EB 112 with a V12 promising 0-62 MPH in 4.4 seconds and lounge-worthy second-row seats was the idea of a super saloon, 20 years ago.

Only Three Bugatti EB 112s Were Ever Made

We know that the Bugatti EB 110 is a very rare car. But the chances of even hearing about its stablemate (sort of), the EB 112 are even rarer. Before Bugatti was acquired by the Volkswagen Group, it was briefly owned by an ambitious Italian businessman - Romano Artioli. This guy was responsible for the bleeding-edge 1991 EB 110.

But he also wanted to give the world a more comfortable 4-door super sedan. The EB 112 planned to fulfill that dream, but just one was built before the company went bankrupt. The assets including 2 unfinished EB 112 chassis were put up for auction and purchased by Monaco-based businessman Goldo Pallanco Pastor. These two were eventually completed by the Monaco Racing Team.

Of the 3 specimens, the first is finished in red (S/N 39001) supposedly owned by the famed designer Giorgetto Giugiaro. The second one, finished in Black (S/N 39002) is the most commonly seen of the three, was the personal car of Gildo Pallanca Pastor. The third one finished in a dark blue shade (S/N 39003) is the rarest of the lot and is believed to be owned by a Russian car collector.

This Super Sedan Packs A 445 HP 6.0-Liter NA V12

The Bugatti EB 112 was to be the EB 110s stablemate, but similarities between them were very few. While the EB 110 packs a quad-turbo V12, the super saloon had a more daily drivable 6.0-Liter Naturally-Aspirated V12. With 455 HP and 479 lb-ft of torque, the EB 112 was destined to chauffeur you very fast. It was slated to do 0-62 MPH in 4.4 seconds and have a top speed of 186 MPH.

These were outrageous figures for a sedan from the 90s. Also, with standard AWD and even optional 4-Wheel-Steering, the EB 112 was equally bleeding edge as its supersport mate. Even wild was the fact that it came with a 5-Speed Manual gearbox. Lucky would have been the person who got the chauffeur's job!

Packed The Same Carbon Fiber Chassis From Bugatti EB 110

Of the little similarities with the EB 110, this super sedan was underpinned by the same carbon fiber chassis. The sedan proportions were achieved with an all-aluminum extension and bodyshell for the chassis. This was an engineering marvel for the automobile industry at the time.

The engine was mounted behind the front wheel, essentially making this a mid-engined super sedan. The 4-Wheel-Steering, low center of gravity, and a sporty suspension setup indicated at this luxury saloon being much more than a lousy caravan!

Now We Know Where The Porsche Panamera Got Inspired From

Look at the Bugatti EB 112 from the side. Doesn't it resemble a lot like the Porsche Panamera?! Well, there is no concrete evidence but we suspect that Porsche designers could have used this unicorn's design as an inspiration. The bulbous form factor, chunky should lines, rounded fascias, and the sudden yet smooth roofline made the EB 112 a bold-looking egg.

The iconic horse-shoe chrome grille up front has always been a symbolic representation of Bugatti throughout history. The sloping section including the split windshield is an ode to the 1936 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic. This coupe-styled full-size sedan was one of the earliest cars to embrace the fastback designs that we have today.

The most shocking aspect of this car would be its four full-sized seats. This was the first-ever move from Bugatti in history to try the 4-door 4-seater route. The interior was high on luxury and was wrapped with leather and other niceties.

The dashboard had a lot of curved elements to go along with its exterior design. The only EB 112 that we have interior images of packs an all-black upholstery with stainless steel inlays on the dash. The second row was very comfy and even had a center-mounted screen with remote control.

The second specimen completed by the Monaco Racing Team is currently up for grabs! This black EB 112 was delivered to Swiss Bugatti importer Chevalley in February 2000. It is registered in Geneva and has been with the same owner ever since.

It has a mileage of just 2,423 miles and can be mesmerized upon on Schaltkulisse.de. There is no mention of the pricing, but we expect it to be worth nearly $4 Million! Because, the EB 112 owned by Pastor sold for €1.9 Million (~$2.15 Million) at an auction in 2016.
