A 1921 Paige Model 6-66 Larchmont II Sport Touring that lay for 20 years at the Buffalo Transportation Pierce-Arrow Museum is up for auction. The auction ends in four days, and despite a grand legacy, at the time of this article’s writing, the highest bid was only $4,000.

It’s quite a piece of history, a century-old car. It comes powered by a 5.4-liter L-head inline-six engine that jets all of 70 horsepower, but don’t let that stop you. One of its cousins did something rather stupendous.

A Record-Breaking Car

Another Paige did something rather incredible with its powerplant, more than 100 years ago, on January 21, 1921. A stripped-down but stock Paige Speedster covered a mile in 35.01 seconds. That’s a speed of 102.8 MPH, and it broke the American stock car speed record.

Now, this 1921 Paige Model 6-66 Larchmont II Sport Touring may not be as peppy but it was restored in 1980. It also carries a retuned engine, transmission, fuel system, and brakes.

The History Of Paige

The Paige-Detroit Motor Car Company was Fredrick Osgood Paige’s brainchild and was formed in 1908. The first model was a two-seater that came powered by a 2.2-liter, three-cylinder, two-stroke engine. By 1919-20, all Paige cars came bearing six-cylinder engines. The ones carrying a Duesenberg engine were called Linwood and the ones with a Continental engine were Larchmont.

The Graham brothers purchased the Paige Motor Car Company in 1927 and continued to make Graham-Paige cars till 1940.

The Model Details

The green Paige model comes with a black convertible top and fenders for a dual-color look. The running board is also green to match the car and comes with metallic step plates. We love the green disc wheels with the polished hubcaps.

There’s a Boyce Motormeter radiator thermometer on the hood and a left-only braking light. The windshield tilts out and the upholstery inside is black leather to match the top. The car also carries an analog clock while the five-digit odometer claims a total of 29,000 miles.

There are two locking storage compartments just in front of the rear seats. And if you do decide to put down your bid, this model will come with all the service records and historical documents, and with New York registration. Plus you get three spare keys and several spare parts as well.

It’s a centenarian. So there is a bit of rusting and corrosion in parts, but nothing that detracts from its classic beauty. Remember, an almost identical 1921 Paige Model 6-66 Larchmont II Sport Touring sold for $17,250 on Bring a Trailer a few weeks back. Better bid while there is time.
