The Russian Foundation for Advanced Research Projects has started creating an innovative Cyclocar airmobile, which will be able to carry up to six people. The power plant can be fully electric or hybrid. This was announced on Friday, April 16, on the official website of the foundation.

What Is Already Known About A New Flying Car?

The first full-size prototype flying car is scheduled to fly in 2022. The machine will be capable of carrying around 1,300 pounds, which is approximately six people. Boarding will be carried out both from the sides and from the stern. The creation of the flying car is carried out within the framework of the Cyclone project.

The Institute of Thermophysics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Foundation of  Research is developing the car. Specialists have already made the preliminary design of the flying machine and conducted ground tests of the cyclic engine. In addition, they conducted a test flight of a 130-pounds prototype.

Next year, the developers promise to conduct pilot flights of the already full-size prototype. It will be equipped with a fully electric power plant. The serial version is promised to be prepared within three years. The price has not yet been announced.

Distinctive features of the car are its compactness, low noise level, fast thrust vector control at 360 degrees, and the ability to land not only on a flat surface but also on an inclined surface up to 30 degrees. In addition, the developers declare the ability to literally moor to vertical walls, which reminds one of the Pagani Zonda R car that was used as wall art. It was also mentioned that the propellers are protected from random objects getting into them. Most importantly, this feature will not allow inattentive passengers to damage themselves.

They promise that a hybrid engine of Russian production will be used as a power plant. But it will be possible to customize it and use the gasoline rotary-piston or turboshaft engine.

At the same time, it will be no more difficult to control a flying car than ordinary modern cars. It will be possible to pilot a flying car directly from the cockpit, via a gadget over the network, or from a control point on the ground. The operator pilot will actually carry out directorial control.
