You remember the Gas Monkey Garage, don't you? That's the Dallas, Texas tuning shop and custom car manufacturer owned by Richard Rawlings responsible for some impressive builds over the years. It's also the basis for their cable TV show, "Fast N' Loud," and a series of offshoots appearing on the Discovery channel. Years ago when car designer and fabricator Aaron Kaufman still worked at the garage, they built the featured car for a drag strip duel against an offering by "Roadkill" called "General Mayhem."

The 1967 Hellcat-powered Dodge Dart "Shart Cat" is now up for sale, and you can buy it for $79,000. What makes this car so special?

The car itself is nothing special. Dodge Darts littered the road serving ably as grocery getters and basic haulers. They were, however, light and had enough room under the hood to stuff a big motor so they were quite popular on the racing scene. Rather than restore the body, Kaufman decided to keep it with a natural patina in the rat rod style. She was also built up to win a race against the "Roadkill" crew so it's best to keep it simple.

Under the hood sits a 6.2 liter supercharged Hellcat engine churning out 707 hp. The power is then transmitted through an ATI 2-speed Powerglide transmission with a 3,500 rpm stall speed converter and Hurst Slapstick before being put to the ground courtesy of a Ford 9 inch rear with 35 spline axles and 4.30 gears in a Detroit Locker. The rest of the car has been thoroughly beefed up with a Magnum Force K-member, Chassisworks 4-link setup, and Wilwood disc brakes. Inside the car is all business with black racing bucket seats and Autometer gauges.

Richard Rawlings gets a lot of hate, deservedly so, for his somewhat antiseptic and economic approach to car building but back when Aaron was still at the shop they produced some truly impressive builds and this is one of them. Considering the price you're paying for the car and its pedigree, it's a pretty good deal. At the very least, you'll probably get a lot of attention on Friday Night cruises. Buckle up.
