The Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) seemed to be slowing down in China, but that doesn’t mean that the pandemic has finally come to a halt in the country. People still find it unsafe to travel to one place or another because of the virus. So, Chinese carmaker Geely Auto isn't taking any chances, and it has installed a system that keeps the Coronavirus out of its newest SUV offering.
Minimalistic Exterior Design
Geely Auto’s newest SUV comes in the form of the new Geely Icon, which is influenced by the Concept Icon unveiled at the 2018 Beijing Auto Show. The new Icon represents a break from the traditional SUV design, as it features an avant-garde minimalistic analog-inspired design. Its exterior was developed in Geely’s design studio in California while its interior was penned at the carmaker’s studio in Barcelona, Spain.
Up front, the SUV is marked by headlamps arranged like an infinity loop. These headlamps were so arranged to extend road visibility to 165 meters. The new Icon features intelligent flushed door handles that only pop out when passengers are approaching the SUV, thereby giving the Icon a clean look on the sides.
Keeping Coronavirus Out
Meanwhile, the interior of the new Geely Icon retains its minimalistic analog-inspired design. It infinity loop styling is evident on the central console and air vents. The new Geely Icon also features two 10.25-inch screens, an information panel as well as a central infotainment console.
Inside, the driver and passenger can remain safe from the Coronavirus. This is made possible by its Intelligent Air Purification System (IAPS) that is N95-certified. Its four-layer filtration system can catch over 95 percent of particles larger than 0.3 microns, which means that it can isolate and get rid of around 99.7 percent of dust and harmful particulates --including viruses and bacteria .
Mild Hybrid At Work
As for power, the new Geely Icon is served by a mild hybrid system that combines a 1.5-liter engine with 48V system. The mill provides 174 hp of output and 188 lb.-ft. of torque (in base form), while the 48V system delivers 13 hp and 33 lb.-ft. of torque. Combined power is sent to the wheels through a 7-Speed Dual Clutch Transmission, allowing the Icon to sprint from nil to 62 mph in just 7.9 seconds.
