The saddest chapter in the life of an automobile is its demise. But while most people relegate those relics to junkyards where gearheads can scour for parts, you'll find endless anecdotes of cars being abandoned in all sorts of places, from deserts to forests and even underwater. It appears that the price point of a vehicle doesn't matter, since the list of dumped vehicles runs the gamut from Camaro muscle cars to Dodges used in the show The Dukes of Hazzard. Then there's this account found Tuesday in Reddit about a rural Georgian who came across two junked MGs on his property.

The Reddit poster in the sparsely-populated Taliaferro County was strolling along his property line when he was distracted by something unusual in the bush. That's when he found the two rust buckets, both lacking any papers connecting them to previous owners, but with keys still in the ignition.

It took two days to drag out both vehicles since they were likely abandoned for at least 20 years less than a half-mile from the road. He also had to hack down several trees to get them out and wondered about the backstory of each vehicle.

Narrowed MGs Down To An MGB And GT

It's difficult to ascertain what MG models were found on that lot, given that the author of the Reddit entry only took one photo of the two cars. Neither vehicle had its grille visible, making it even tougher. Additional sleuthing and responses to the Reddit piece, however, point to the green vehicle being an MGB with the lighter-colored sedan identified as a GT.

MG cites that the MGB, which was in production from 1962 to 1980, remains the best-selling roadster in the company's history. Manufacturing of the MGB also marked the first time that the company used a monocoque style of construction, which integrated the chassis with the rest of the body rather than have the two components built separately before assembly. The GT came later in 1965, with the slope roofed style created by Italian design firm Pininfarina which combined sportiness with practicality, especially given the addition of a hatchback.

As for what to do with these cars, Reddit responders provided plenty of advice, much of it geared towards getting rid of the vehicles, although a few felt the cars were still collectors' items if restored properly. It turns out the individual who found the cars already sold the vehicles to a wreckage service for $700.
