Ford came into this world a bit earlier than GM, but just five years after the Ford brand was introduced to the world, General Motors came to life. Since then, both companies have been in constant competition with one another to build the better car and attract more customers. It’s so bad that every time one brand comes up with something new, the other has it within the same year, if not sooner. This competition has been going on for more than 100 years. That’s a long time and, like any major power in the world, each brand has its own loyal followers that not only rep their brand of choice but talk as much crap about the other as possible. You know what I’m talking about – All of you have a friend that is a die-hard Chevy or Ford guy.

The friendly back and forth of brand hate used to be limited to those times when we came together for a night of fun, but when MEMEs began to take over the internet, it was only a matter of time before the war between Ford and Chevy fans crossed over onto a whole new battlefield. And that’s where we are today. There are literally thousands of memes on the internet, and we’ve plucked out the best shots fired from both GM and Ford. Some of them are downright hilarious while others are pretty mean if you’re on the wrong side of the barrel. Either way, it’s all about fun here, so let’s get to it.

15 It’s Never Seen A Pair Of Camaro Taillights

via facebook

The 2016 Shelby GT350R is what’s pictured above, and rightfully so. It’s not very often a GT350R see’s a set of taillights period, let alone a pair of Camaro taillights. The GT350R is a track-bred monster that delivers 526 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque from a naturally aspirated engine. You read that right, folks – a naturally aspirated engine. According to Car and Driver, that much cold-hearted, free-breathing power is good for 3.9-second runs to 60 mph. It’ll also cruise down a quarter-mile track in 12.2 seconds while hitting 119 mph.

To be fair, the Camaro ZL1 does beat it out with 60 mph coming in 3.4 seconds and a quarter mile at 11.5 seconds, but that ZL1 coupe is supercharged and rocks a 10-speed automatic. The GT350R is of the row-your-own variety with three pedals. So, most Camaro owners will know this look all too well if they’ve lined up with one, but those ZL1 drivers have put the GT350R in its place.

14 Fords Have Had Their Fair Share of Problems

via memecrunch

Every automaker has their problems from time to time. More so now than ever, of course, but we’ll touch base on that another time. For now, let’s point out that one of the big boasting points for Chevy fanboys is Chevy reliability. Now, it may be a little over exaggerated, but the Ford F-150 alone has had a lot of its own issues over the years that are enough to make anyone skeptical. Raybuck.com even has a long list of commons broken down into generations, and it’s crazy.

It started out bad from 87 to 96 with transmission problems, ball joints, and other suspension problems. From 1997 to 2003, F-150s refused to run from time to time, going so far as ejecting their own spark plugs at random.

Ford should have fixed that problem, and it did, but the next-gen model had that aluminum heads and spark plugs were known to get stuff or break off during removal… Seriously? There was actually a special removal procedure published by Ford for this problem. The blue oval went from one extreme to another it seems. These days the F-150 suffers head gasket problems, throttle body malfunctions, and what’s with that infotainment system? Anyway, now you know what Chevy owners actually feel bad for Ford owners from time to time.

13 It Goes Both Ways With Ford and Chevy Trucks

via facebook

“I’d rather push a Chevy than drive a Ford.” Those words have been spewed from the mouth of Chevy fanboys for years, and this meme, specifically, really makes you wonder how many guys have actually eaten those words at some point down the road. Sure, Fords have problems, but so do Chevys. Just check out truckforums.com to see for yourself. The 1999 Silverado and Sierra have been pegged with no fewer than 5 common problems that include issues with tailgate handles, fuel pumps, fuel level sensors, and throttle body carbon leading to rough idles.

Oh, and the 4WD switches are horrible in these models too. Models before 99 had issues with intake gaskets, and let’s not forget about GM’s infamous and horrible spider fuel injection system. Other problems include cold-start knocking, bad taillight circuit boards, burning wires in the dash, and the list goes on and on. So, while Chevy owners do occasionally feel bad for Ford owners, Fans of the blue oval usually get the last laugh when they honk and wave at that Chevy truck being pushed to the side of the road or loaded onto the back of a wrecker.

12 Do They Intentionally Aim For Crowds?

via fullredneck

There have been no shortage of videos that show various generations of Ford Mustangs slamming into crowds. Most of the time there are few injuries, but that isn’t the point. For about a year there, it seemed like at least once a week there was another Mustang that took a turn toward the crowd in the worst way. Now, this isn’t really the Mustang’s fault. Well, you could blame Ford for not addressing the car’s spunky throttle that can cause the rear-end to cut looser than expected.

In reality, the fault should lie on the driver that obviously didn’t know how to control their car well enough to “play” anyway. Then again, it seems like a lot of these videos surfaced after Cars & Coffee meets, so maybe driving under the influence of caffeine had something to do with it. Regardless, some Chevy fan, and probably a Camaro owner, sure did stick it to those Mustang drivers with this one. Lovely.

11 The 200-Yard Test

via Facebook

Facebook has become an awesome place to spread memes, and some of them spread like wildfire. This one, in particular, popped up on our radar four times in one week, so we had to feature it here. It was clearly made by a Ford Fanboy, and it goes to show just how far that classic argument about unreliability really goes.

Hopefully, you can drive your car more than 200 yards regardless of what emblem it wears but, if it can’t, it might not be a bad idea to keep a spare pair of jogging shoes in the back.

On the plus side, if Chevys are, indeed, unreliable, at least they inspire you to be more active. Just call your buddy for a ride in his Ford. I’m sure he’ll love to take the opportunity to lecture you about how much better his brand of choice is.

10 LS Swap Everything

via meme generator

This meme kind of hits us in the feels because the new Ford GT wasn’t supposed to have a V-6. Ford was expected to cram a turbocharged version of that flat-plane crank V-8 from the Shelby GT350 behind the front seats, but then Ford pulled the covers off, and there sat a 3.5-liter, EcoBoost V-6. Some journalists stared in disbelief while others remained optimistic. In the end, things turned out okay as that V-6 delivered a cool 647 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque – enough to move this supercar through the 60-mph threshold in 2.9 seconds and up to 100 mph in 5.7 seconds if you believe Car & Driver.

So, why would anyone want to do an LS swap? Well, they wouldn’t, but that doesn’t stop GM fanboys from poking the bear any chance they get.

See, the LS one of the most commonly swapped engines in the world and there are plenty of Ford Mustangs out there rocking that GM goodness under their hoods. The main reason is that they are relatively cheap, and stock is plentiful. Plus, they are compact, cheap to build, and light. Does it mean any form of the LS is better than anything Ford has? Not necessarily, but you can’t argue with the fact that the LS finds a place to call home under the hood of models from Porsche, Mazda, and even Honda, among others.

9 So That’s What Ford Tough Means…

via pinterest

Remember the good old days when bouncing off something meant that you had a dent to pop out next weekend and a funny story to share with your friends? Well, that’s not the case anymore if you own a Ford. That new aluminum body might be light and might save you an extra MPG or two, but it’s nowhere near as strong as the stamped steel bodies of the past. Of course, this is where we should follow up with one of those memes that include a picture of an F-150’s radio antenna ripped off after a trip through the car wash, but we’ll leave that meme for social media. We’re not sure if this Ford really hit a cat or not, but if it did, that must have been a pretty big cat. We’re also kind of curious about where the headlight went…

8 When It Comes Down To Cold Hard Figures….

via pinterest

Sure, this meme happens to include a Dodge Charger – a formidable modern muscle competitor – but it’s really about the ongoing Mustang-Camaro battle. And, why shouldn’t this Mustang be best? After all, it’s a Shelby GT500, and it’s much faster than any Camaro from the time. Just think about the specs for a minute. This generation of the GT500 (let’s say 2013 model year for reference) had 662 horsepower and 631 pound-feet of torque on tap. Enough, according to Motor Trend, for a run to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. And, independent testing showed that the GT500 could blast through a quarter mile in 11.6 seconds at 125.7 mph.

So what about that Camaro up there? Well, just to be fair, we’re going to look at the 2013 Camaro ZL1 which, at the time, boasted 580 horsepower and 556 pound-feet of torque. Testing gave the ZL1 credit for a 3.8-second run to 60 mph and a 12.1-second run down the quarter-mile strip at 117.4 mph. Sorry Chevy guys, but in this case, the Mustang really was number one.

7 At Least There Are Plenty of Mustang Parts Available

via facebook

There’s no doubt about it – a Chevy fanboy definitely made this meme. It’s quite funny, to be honest, and sure enough, there is a Ford dealership in just about every city or town. Or, at least in the general vicinity of smaller cities or towns, anyway.

The funny thing is that there’s usually an equally large or larger Chevy Dealership within a few hundred yards of the local Ford dealership.

Regardless of your favorite brand, the opposite brands will always be junk to you. This meme reminds us of just how relevant that really is. Just think about the cities where you have Ford, Chevy, Cadillac, Chrysler, and Honda dealerships all on the same strip competing with each other. Now that’s a lot of junkyards.

6 Side Effects of LS-Swapping Everything

via full redneck

Ford drivers might be used to their Mustangs kicking out at the worst possible time imaginable, usually aiming toward a crowd of innocent bystanders or a brick building that’s just itching for a Mustang-sized indent in the front. Okay, that Mustang and crowds joke is about as overplayed as a 90s song on repeat, so I’ll get to the point.

Putting an LS in a Mustang yields some interesting results, one of which is showcased perfectly in this meme. LS engines are quite light and usually lighter than the engines they replace.

When you factor in the plethora of aftermarket parts available and the simplicity to build an LS to the gills, first timers going full throttle off the line might get the shock of a lifetime when that front end comes off the ground in fast and furious fashion. Of course, the stock 5.0-liter V-8 found in the Mustang these days is more than tolerant of boosting, and that option can yield a similar result if done right.

5 Should Have Bought a Ford, Huh?

via facebook

If you look across the internet, you’ll find that the Chevy Camaro actually has a lot of positive reviews. But, when you start diving into forums and see all the random, miscellaneous problems, you begin to understand where a meme like this comes from. Over at Camaro6 forums, drivers were complaining about vibration during acceleration or shuddering during acceleration, the latter of which is apparently a torque converter problem. There are all kinds of little problems, but some of these are pretty serious for a car that’s supposed to be performance biased and as dependable as they come. Be that as it may, when you see a Camaro strapped to the back of a tow truck, you can’t help but wonder if the owner really does wish he had gone with the Mustang instead. The same can be said when you see a Chevy truck on the back of a wrecker too.

4 Getting All Technical

via Pinterest

Looking back at the evolution of engines, most automakers ditched the pushrod engine design in favor of single and dual overhead cams. Even when Ford discontinued the 4.6-liter, pushrod, V-8 back in 1995, GM continued to fight the good fight and pushed on with that old-school goodness. While the design was considered outdated, inefficient, and certainly wasn’t associated with performance, GM has managed to take a single-cam V-8 and deliver up more than 600 horsepower from this “archaic technology.”

The 6.2-liter V-8 found in the 2015 Corvette Z06, for example, managed to churn out some 625 horsepower and it only went up from there.

Ford, on the other hand, has continued to despise the overhead valve design but, the site administrator over at SVTperformance.com claims that ford is working on an all-new gasoline engine that will rock the old-school OHV design too. Dodge recently did it too with that new HEMI V-8. The point is that the Chevy fan that made this meme knew his stuff because Ford hasn’t managed to cross that big barrier with an OHV engine – that’s something that GM can still hold against Ford to this day.

3 It’s True But Only To An Extent

via Facebook

Find it hard to believe that a 50-year-old Mustang will beat a new Camaro? Well, it kind of is hard to believe but not completely. According to Zeroto60times.com, the 2016 Camaro Lt runs to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds. Now, according to tests by Car and Driver, that’s a bit faster than even the 67 Shelby GT500, which did the same run in 6.5 seconds. Of course, that was happening way back in 1967, so one could argue that the Ford deserves a bit of a handicap. So, where does this meme really come in as accurate? Well, it depends on the rules of the game. See, that old Mustang is heavily upgradeable, and unless someone really decided to keep it stock, then chances are it’s delivering more than the stock rating of 355 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. As such, it could very well be much faster than a new Camaro – at least one in stock form, anyway.

2 The Classic Drag Race Argument

via Pinterest

This is one of those classic reversal lines that is enough to make you spit out your drink if you hear it in person at the right time. Naturally, the Mustang has been beaten by the Camaro and vice versa, but the truth really depends on who you ask.

These days, the two cars are more competitive than ever with the V-8 Camaro offering up a stock configuration that’s good for 455 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque and the V-8 Mustang offering up 460 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque.

In stock configuration, the winner of an all-out drag race really comes down to driver skill. Motor Trend tested the Camaro 1SS 1LE and the Mustang GT Performance pack, and the Camaro did beat the Mustang down the Quarter-mile track but just by one-tenth of a second and one-tenth of a mile per hour (12.5 seconds @ 155.2 mph and 12.6 seconds @ 115.1 mph, respectively.) So, there you have it. This meme might be downright hilarious to the right crowd, but it could really go either way.

1 There’s Nothing Wrong With A Strong Imagination

via meme generator

And, it’s come to this – our final entry. And, we’ve decided to leave one of the best for last with favor leaning toward the blue oval. According to the meme, it takes an overactive imagination for a Chevy to beat a Ford. Of course, this isn’t always true, but what if it’s not just about performance? Maybe it’s about build quality, fit and finish, and reliability. Okay, Ford probably won’t get the thumbs up on reliability but neither will Chevy – both GM and Ford have dropped that ball one too many times to get a pass in that category based on merit alone. On that end, however, which brand is better really boils down to preference and trim level or quality of materials on the inside. It’s been a 100-year battle between these two companies, and it’s not going to stop anytime soon. The memes will keep coming, and we’ll keep enjoying every single one of them.
