At the opening keynote address at CES 2021, CEO of General Motors, Mary Barra announced BrightDrop, a new delivery-focused subbrand that aims to provide the products and infrastructure to advance EV market share in the commercial delivery space. Its first products will be the EP1, an electrically powered pallet to help drivers make deliveries more easily, and the EV600, a large EV cargo van based on the Ultium platform. BrightDrop is an all-in-one solution aimed at large companies that want to leverage advancements in EV technology and GM already has one of the biggest shipping companies on board.

FedEx Has Already Run A Pilot Program

While they're still waiting for their first deliveries of the van shown above, FedEx has already been testing the accompanying product, the EP1, an electrically-powered pallet designed to not only integrate with the EV600 seamlessly, but also take the strain and physical nature of the job down for the employee working with it.

The van itself is meant to have a 250 mile range but it's the fact that it's only one part of what is supposed to be a complete solution that makes it more interesting than other options we've seen in planning. Vans can be remotely monitored by the parent company to ensure that they're in good condition and charged sufficiently. GM plans to have the EV600 on the road by the end of 2021.
