GM is offering a $25,000 reward to anyone with information on the horribly racist incidents at their Toledo powertrain plant.

Back in January, CNN revealed that there was a problem at GM’s powertrain plant in Toledo, Ohio. Rampant, unchecked racism permeated the entire plant, with liberal use of the N-word, racial epithets, swastikas, and even nooses appearing in an apparent attempt to threaten black co-workers.

At one point, a white worker told his boss: “Back in the day, you would have been buried with a shovel.”

You’d think that the plant supervisor would have put a stop to this, but he failed to take worker complaints seriously. At one point during a meeting with state officials, he was even overheard to say, "There was never a black person who was lynched that didn't deserve it."

So yeah.

That ended with GM getting sued by two black managers who felt their lives were in danger. They left comfy, 6-figure jobs due to the threats and so sued GM for lost wages and emotional distress. GM was also held accountable by a state civil rights complaint.

The investigation is still ongoing, but GM is at least taking steps to combat the rampant racism. Once the report came to light, GM shut the entire Toledo plant down for a day for every employee to undergo mandatory retraining. Such topics included not painting the walls with swastikas and not threatening a dark-skinned boss with death by hanging.

Now we hear courtesy of the Detroit Free Press that GM is also offering a $25,000 reward for anyone with information on where these threats were coming from.

"We have zero tolerance for discrimination, and we’re doing everything we can to identify the culprit. This is another step we’ve taken, working with police to intensify the investigation," GM said in a statement given to the Free Press. "We’re outraged that anyone would face threats, and our hearts go out to anyone affected by this bigotry."

The reward is being offered through CrimeStoppers in collaboration with the Toledo Police Department and the FBI. Tips can be offered anonymously, so that’s quite a payday for outing a racist.
