The GMC Hummer EV is a truck with high expectations. The original Hummer was a truck that had quite the reputation. With such huge boots to fill, GM decided to enter the electric vehicle market with the Hummer name. With the torque that these motors can provide, GM felt that it is the perfect spot for a new Hummer EV.

The idea is a great one but as The Fast Lane Truck YouTube Channel shows in their latest upload, perhaps the whole process to put out the truck happened too fast when the EV's reliability proves to be less than acceptable.

Trying A Hard Reboot

We begin the video with our presenter stuck in the left turn lane in a brand new Hummer EV. He begins to explain that the car will not move into drive or reverse. Turning the vehicle off via the start button has little effect, with it only turning off the main screen but not the instrument cluster screen. He tells us that although a hard reboot would most likely fix the issue, he can not open the frunk to gain access to the plug since it's electronically operated.

A police car parks behind the Hummer and helps direct traffic while our presenter tells us that he's been through about 10 different people on the Hummer OnStar service. The truck weighs over 9,000 lb, so he needs a premium service tow truck which he tells us will only arrive an hour later.

We're told the truck gave a code about the steering rack needing servicing as well as a code for the TPMS sensors. At this point, our host, Roman, decides to do a soft reset. This is when the car decided to go haywire. Re-performing the soft reset has no effect on the truck's abilities.

Tow Truck To The Rescue

At the 12:29 mark in the video, the tow truck finally arrives. Roman begins to explain to the tow truck driver that the truck weighs 9,000 lb. and that it will not go into neutral. Luckily, it is raining and will provide a somewhat lubricated surface on the metal tow truck bed for the truck to slide. However, the tow truck driver still insists that they try to find a "towing mode" since it is an electric vehicle and dragging could damage the motors.

They decide to do a little research and find that there is a tiny latch to release the hood on the vehicle. After finding its location with the tow truck driver. they pull it and finally, the hood pops open. They perform the hard reset and the truck finally starts. Needless to say, Roman is not impressed with the Hummer EV nor the information from OnStar.
