With just about 24 hours to go until the future of the Hummer nameplate is released, here's everything we know about it before its public debut. This is a smart rebirth for a company that left the scene as a casualty of the financial crisis in 2008. While Hummer was considered at the time a brand that was all about excess, unfortunately, that excess also included gobbling up fuel and emitting as much CO2 into the atmosphere as a small yacht. Bringing it back as General Motors' high-end, high-performance EV truck brand is a smart business decision.

Built To Perform Better Than Any Previous Hummer

Thanks to the instant torque that electric motors provide, this new Hummer is going to be capable of 0 to 60 in just three seconds according to GMC. Powering those lightning-quick acceleration times will be 1,000 horsepower routed to all four wheels. That's a pretty incredible number, but the twist is where the Hummer gets completely ridiculous. The top of the line model will feature some 11,500 ft-lbs of torque. That's more than 26 times the torque of the best Ford F-150 that you can buy today.

While the old Hummer was a bit archaic even when new, this vehicle seems to be pushing the limits of technology. The 800-volt battery pack will feature 350-kWh fast charging. There's a good chance that would allow the vehicle to charge fully within an hour's time and go some 400 miles on that single charge. Furthermore, that torque figure will surely allow it to haul whatever it needs to.

What will be interesting is finding out if GMC has found a way to improve towing to the extent that it's not going to heavily limit the range. They've jumped into the bleeding edge when it comes to suspension and steering, though. Featuring something called the "Crab Walk", both the front and rear axles can turn to allow the vehicle to move laterally. They're also going to include a nearly roofless interior or, as GMC calls it, the Infinity Roof.

Production Starts A Year From Now

While Covid-19 pushed the timetable of the Hummer back, it's clear that GMC has done much to take full advantage of that additional time. Nevertheless, it's planning on going from its debut to a road near you in just one year. Assuming that the world premiere will reveal far more features we don't know about yet, it seems that this next evolution of the Hummer will be a smash hit. We'll have all the news here for you at HotCars so stay tuned!
