The GMC Motorhome is unique for a lot of reasons, but this one is unique for one more...it's been gutted and turned into a custom car hauler. Gone is the vinyl wood paneling and plush bench seats and in their place are car rails and marine grade plywood meant to house a full size car. Access is granted through a motorized lift gate made out of the rear end of the former motorhome. The unique creation is for sale on BringaTrailer.

Most motorhomes are coach built affairs set on a heavy truck chassis donated from fleet work vehicles or vans and pickups. The GMC Motorhome was built from the ground up as a motorhome by GMC. Interior space was maximized by using the engine and transmission out of the front wheel drive Toronado. It also has the distinction of having been the fastest motorhome built at the time. The motorhome was made from 1972 to 1978.

Custom Conversion

The seller has gotten rid of the groovy 70s interior and added accommodations for a car of your choosing. The rear end has been cut and converted into a remote powered lift gate. The track at the rear has also been widened to allow for smooth entry. The motorhome turned car hauler can also squat down to accept its charge thanks to hydraulic suspension modifications.

Stealth Haul

Outside the wider track, and once buttoned up, the conversion doesn't give away its new purpose. The front cabin remains the same with a single DIN CD head unit and CB radio added in. The truck's regular air conditioning is apparently not up to the task but the roof unit works fine when plugged in. The custom hauler is selling out of Malibu, CA and is offered as a no reserve auction.
