The GMC Syclone was one of the best sleeper cars of all time. Its 4.3-second 0-60 time was even faster than a contemporary Ferrari 348, cementing the pickup as a real performance powerhouse of the early 90s.

Power was from a 280 horsepower 4.3-liter V6 which hooked up to the road through a rear-biased all-wheel-drive system. With performance like that - including a significant 350 lb-ft of torque - the Syclone baffled many and was among the first of the fast trucks that inspired the segment still produced today with the Ram TRX.

With a sleeper status and jaw-dropping performance, the original GMC Syclone regularly sells above $40,000 today. However, many of us wonder if we'll ever see a modern variant, although GMC has no plans to bring back the Syclone. With that in mind, HotCars digital artist Rostislav Prokop renders a new GMC Syclone but with a twist. This time, it gets a crazy six-wheel drive system and way more power than the original. Read on to hear about this incredible pickup.

UPDATED MARCH 2023: It's time to revisit this successful GMC Syclone render, as we update this article with any new information on the classic truck including current GMC Syclone values.

The New GMC Syclone Build Gets Six Wheels And Lowered Look

The most striking difference from the original Syclone is the addition of two extra drive wheels. These not only help to give the truck an aggressive look but would help to put the power down with extra traction on and off the road. The truck also offers up some cool ground effects with a side skirt and a front splitter that would differentiate it from other pickups. This GMC is one part GM truck and one part Hennessey Velociraptor 6x6.

With modern LED lighting and a wider body kit, there are very few similarities to the original GMC Syclone. However, the Syclone logo on the doors is a nice throwback to the original.

In the back, 3 exhaust pipes exit at middle of the car, hinting that this new GMC Syclone pickup truck has a powerful gasoline engine under the hood.

Prokop's render looks so good that we could easily see a new GMC Syclone with a similar design rolling off GM's assembly line.

For this modern GMC Syclone to keep up with modern performance cars, it would need an incredible engine. To keep true to the V6 roots of the Syclone, the twin-turbo V6 from the Cadillac CT5-V could get thrown into the truck for 360 horsepower. While it’s true to the legacy of the Syclone, a vehicle this big needs more power to be a true sleeper.

With the 6.2-liter supercharged V8 from the Cadillac Escalade-V, this Syclone could bring on the wind storm that the original did when it burst onto the scene. That would give it nearly 700 horsepower and would compete with the likes of the Ford Bronco Raptor. Another unit with a supercharger instead, could work in the form of the Camaro ZL1's 6.2-liter, LT4 engine, offering 650 hp / 650 lb-ft. Now if only GM would build a new 2023 GMC Syclone like this for real.

In March 2023 current values of the GMC Syclone are still around $39,000, with just 50 auctions of the Syclone over the last 5 years recorded on Classic.com. Alternatively, the mechanically-similar GMC Typhoon (which was a 2-door SUV version of the Syclone pickup) has lower average values with a $29,000 listing over the auction of around 50 vehicles over 5 years - making it a cheaper way to experience the turbo whoosh and analogue driving fun.
