After the GMC Sierra 2500HD arrived as an all-new truck barely a year ago, it will be coming back for the 2021 model year probably stronger. GMC had been expected to implement a couple of changes to make the Sierra 2500HD more appealing to customers. Here’s a quick summary of those changes.

Exterior Updates

Thanks to GM Authority, we are able to see the revisions made to the exterior, interior, package structure and powertrain of the incoming GMC Sierra 2500HD. For 2021, the pickup truck will still be available in five trim levels Sierra (base), SLE, SLT, AT4 and Denali. For the exterior, color palette will see two colors deleted (Dark Sky Metallic and Red Quartz Tintcoat) and three new colors added (Ebony Twilight Metallic, Cayenne Red Tintcoat and Hunter Metallic).

Various wheel offerings will be removed or added. For example, the 18-inch 6-spoke machined aluminum wheels (with high gloss black accents) will be deleted. New will be 18-inch machined aluminum wheel with Dark Grey metallic accents. There are also a variety of 20-inch wheels available for the SLE, SLT, AT4 and Denali trims.

For the 2021 model year, drivers of the GMC Sierra 2500HD base and SLE models could view the cargo bed via the new Bed View Camera with the output shown on the optional inside rearview auto-dimming mirror (with partial video display). On the SLT, AT4 and Denali trims, the output will be shown on the center screen, as with the 2020 models.

For 2021, the standard 6.6-liter V8 L8T gasoline engine of the base Sierra 2500HD can be optioned with E85 FlexFuel capability, which would require the JL1 trailer brake controller. The more powerful 6.6-liter V8 L5P turbo-diesel Duramax engine will still be optional, just as offered on the 2020 GMC Sierra HD.
