Many consider the Chevrolet Camaro SS the holy grail of American muscle, and it doesn’t matter from which generation you pick it out, it has an almost cultic following. Goonzquad, through their YouTube channel, just uploaded ‘Part 7’ of their 1967 Camaro SS rebuild.

“Our game plan is to actually fix all these body damages here before we focus on the engine swap because we are still waiting on parts to do the engine swap. I think that’s the perfect game plan right there. I think it’s the best way to do it,” Billy said.

The Goonzquad brothers had torn apart all the Camaro SS body panels to make sure they had all the proper stuff. In this video, they focus on fixing a new steel pillar.

Pillar Piece and Front Fender Install

Simon works on cutting and grinding on the old pillar to get it off for the new piece. Next, they put a support bar to hold the car while they plan to insert the new pillar.

“We are almost basically ready to slap a new piece on. Oh, and I forgot to mention, as you can tell, we just sliced that thing clean in half, because after I had seen the inside of this. As you can tell, it’s actually tubular, and there are no inner panels that you actually have to do a slice section. It’s a perfect way to weld completely around this thing," Simon revealed.

After welding the pillar piece, they also attach the door and front fender, finishing the right-hand side, front-end from the door, up.

“So, we did a bunch of adjustments, a bunch of cutting, and we got that pillar finally on there with a bunch of self-tappers and some of these vice grips here,” Simon said.

Instead of doing a straight cut on the panels and trying to weld them up, the Goonzquad brothers staggered the pillar panels a bit, making them overlap, which makes them stronger when welded together.

They aren’t ready to weld any of the Camaro SS body panels until they get the new quarter panel and structural pieces to make sure everything aligns perfectly.

“Just trying to align this door and fender how it sits right here was super difficult, because first of all, these are not OEM parts. I believe only the quarter panels are OEM and a few other little pieces. But the door and this are from another country. I think they are from Taiwan,” Simon confessed.

They plan to work on the quarter panel moving forward, then throw in the left side fender and the front grill section.

Next, they work on an Audi and clear out the garage while waiting on parts to continue the wrecked Camaro SS rebuild.

“We are back on the Camaro because as soon as we cleaned up a few parts out of this area, another part came in,” Billy said. “This right here is our windshield. We ordered a brand-new glass because this is what’s going to tell us if our pillar is in the proper position,” Simon added.

They put the front glass, the left side fender, and the front grill to see how the rebuilt Camaro SS lines up.

“Check this out, this Camaro is starting to come together more and more every minute of the day right there, and it is looking absolutely beautiful, especially with this grill and other fender on, and it’s looking like a legit Camaro now, you know,” Billy reveals.

While It still needs a lot of work on the quarter panel before they can think of getting it to move. But it’s a step in the right direction for the Goonzsquad 1967 Camaro SS rebuild.
