Season 3 of Car Masters: Rust to Riches is back with a bang and the Gotham Garage crew are shelling out some very interesting and quirky cars. Ever since the start of the season, Mark and Shawn have been keen on building 6-figure cars after getting a taste of high-end clientele with their second Plymouth XNR Concept Replica.

That concentrates their interest on a Woody Station Wagon, an easy 6-figure car. But they need to sell a bunch of trade cars to get there. And it starts with a scrap 1970 Mercedes-Benz 220. The crew converts this rusty old car into a trippy drift machine to help them jump one step closer to their 6-figure Woody.

While the crew is busy converting a '33 Ford Replica into a Delahaye-styled art piece, Shawn goes ahead and pitches in a plan to trade up their way to a 6-figure car. He takes Mark to a car lot and shows him a busted 1970 Mercedes-Benz 220 sedan.

Danny is the client for this Euro American drift machine

Danny, a Hollywood stuntman and a full-time drift addict wants a drift machine built out of this German. After a bit of persuasion, Mark agrees on the plan and jots out a plan to convert the rusty German into a tire-smoking monster.

The Merc 220 is not generally the type of car that is used for drifting as it is heavy and extremely long to be nimble. But the crew takes up this challenge and slaps on a befitting 62.-liter V8 motor from a 2011 Camaro. This LS3 is capable of pumping out 426 HP and 420 lb-ft of torque; enough performance to take the German tank sideways.

They also slide in a hydraulic hand-brake kit to make sliding into corners an easy affair. As Danny also wants this to be sort of his daily driver, the team adds 4 sports seats to add a bit more comfort. Mark adds a bit of '80s flair with boxy widebody panels completely made out of sheet metal.

Boom Goes The Differential

They sort out the mechanical bits and take the car for a test run. The swapped engine was too powerful for the differential to handle, and it busted on the run. They took the car back and swapped in a differential that had the mettle to take the LS3's torque blast. The 'drifting' bits are sorted now and Mark gets on with the final touches of making this Merc look vibrant.

The final test of this half-German half-American drift machine happens at the Adams Motorsports Park at the hands of Danny himself. He is impressed by the way it looks and glides through the technical course with ease. The project is a success and Danny is stroked by the trend-setter.

One Step Closer To Getting Their 6-Figure Car

Danny is more than happy to trade his clean 1972 International Scout 2 for this drift missile. And the best part is that the Scout already comes bundled with a few major custom boxed parts as well. This bridges the gap to getting their hands on the 6-figure car, as the current owner of the Woody is an off-roading fanatic. And the Car Masters crew plan on wooing him with a Gotham Garage special Scout 2!
