Gran Turismo 7 launched too much fanfare earlier in 2022, with a stacked selection of cars, tracks and of course stunning visuals. It features an incredible soundtrack and is a return to the glory days of the series, after the lighter and less packed Gran Turismo Sport a few years ago. It's had a tough time in recent months thanks to the credits and microtransactions controversy, but the game looks to have righted many of the wrongs in recent months and updates have added yet more content to the game.

Now, Gran Turismo 7’s update 1.19 has dropped onto the PS4 and the PS5. Three new cars are part of this update, the Porsche 918 Spyder, the Nissan Skyline Super Silhouette from 1984 and the incredible Maserati A6GCS/53 Spyder from 1954. Not only that but we get two new locations two which are Shikoku and Tomica Town, both of which are in Japan. These are set to bring in a new take on the Japanese car culture, and will be further welcome additions to the game and will add even more enjoyment for players.

The Cars With The New 2022 Update In Gran Turismo 7

The Porsche 918 Spyder that is being added to the game is the 2013 model year example, and it is a car that is probably set to become a classic in its own right. The 918 Spyder was first brought into the world in 2010 at that year's Geneva Motor Show, and it became part of the original three hypercars that also included the Ferrari LaFerrari and the McLaren P1. The 918 Spyder has a 4.6-liter Porsche MR6 B8 under the hood as well as two electric motors which provides the car with 875 hp.

The Nissan Skyline Super Silhouette Group 5 84 is a car that has featured in Gran Turismo games before. But it has not been seen since Gran Turismo 2, and first appeared in the series in the first game. The Skyline holds the longest gap between releases in the Gran Turismo games, with the car having a gap of 23 years from that last release in Gran Turismo 2. In the game, the car represented is the 184 #11 KDR30 Super Silhouette entered by Hasemi Motorsport TOMICA in that year's Fuji Super Silhouette Series. The car was driven by Masahiro Hasemi, who took two victories in that period.

The Final New Car Is An Iconic Maserati Spyder 54

The final car to come as part of this update is the Maserati A6GCS/53 Spyder 54. This is one truly incredible machine that makes its Gran Turismo debut as part of this 1.19 update for Gran Turismo 7, and it is one of the rarest Maserati’s in the world. The car is powered by a twin-cam, twin-ignition six-cylinder engine that is adapted from the previous A6GCS, and when one of the A6GCS/53s sold in France in 2018, it sold for a staggering $3,001.485. A truly remarkable sum of money.

The A6GCS/53 was a very significant car in the history of Maserati. It provided the platform for Maserati to transition from just creating race cars, to becoming a primarily road-car company. It led to the 1954 A6G/54, a de-tuned and road going version of the A6GCS/53 Corsa Spiders, and this was the beginning of Maserati turning road-cars into its core business focus, although they did of course keep going in the racing world. So while the A6GCS/53 might actually be a bit of an unknown to many people, it is a highly significant car to feature in Gran Turismo 7.

Finally, we have two new locations as part of the update. Shikoki and Tomica Town, both in Japan. These locations are added as featured in Curation in Scapes, with Tomica Town being a die-cast town, based upon Tomica die-cast toy cars that first went on sale in the 1970s. While they are not new racetracks, they are new content nonetheless and certainly some unique and cool additions to the game. The update is now available for download on both the PS4 and the PS5, so get your consoles on if you want to enjoy the new content.

There has been some fantastic content for Gran Turismo 7 in recent months, helping to rectify the wrongs that players went through earlier in 2022. Of course, this won’t be the last update for the game and there will no doubt be more brilliant cars coming to Gran Turismo 7 later in the year and beyond. It is though refreshing to see so much extra content come in for the game, especially with a car as significant as the A6GCS/53 from Maserati. We can't wait to hit the track in these three epic cars and to see how they feel in the game.
