This list reads like a who's who of creating a waterfall of different color paint and driving some of the most iconic American muscle cars through it. To some, it spells art, to others it wails tragedy. Muscle cars stood for big power in small packages and aggressive body panels dipped in anger.

These paint jobs erase what made the muscle car a feared entity. There's no question that these designs required some degree of creativity, but perhaps the canvas should have been a white sheet of paper, and not an extremely rare piece of automotive art.

8 Plymouth Satellite

This Plymouth Satellite adopted, against its wishes no doubt, a style best suited for rat rods. It's rough, matte paint and shark teeth lend the Satellite a disservice, as a car that could hold its own against other legendary muscle cars of its time. If anything the shark teeth detract from the car's factory aggression, belittling its ability to be mean like a muscle car should. If the owner somehow made the front of the car open like an actual jaw and manage to be legitimately terrifying, that would make up for it.

7 1968 Chevrolet Corvette

This car deserves props for at least being coordinated, somewhat. Orange, yellow and red are fine for getting noticed by highway patrolmen, in fact with this paint job it would be possible to rack up quite the traffic ticket collection. 1968 was the first year of the third generation Corvette, following the inaugural Stingray generation, thus the first year of the new body style. The Corvette by this time had gained some weight, but in all the right places, as depicted from the front fenders and quarter panels.

6 Chevrolet Camaro

This Camaro's illness is defined as an extraordinarily busy and crimson paint job. Some characters are depicted on the driver's side door, but their ambiguity is enough to deter any real confidence in being able to decipher who they are. There's also a plate of some kind blocking the quarter glass. This generation Camaro already suffers from less-than-ideal visibility, so blocking some of the car's sparse glass doesn't seem like the smartest move in the world. Then again there's so much tint on the car, maybe it's a moot point.

5 1971 Chevrolet Nova

There is a stark difference between wanting to look like a gangster, and actually being a gangster. This poor Nova falls into the former category, hard. The orange is tolerable if not slightly abrasive, as the rest of the car seems ashamed to don the fake bullet holes. If the orange wasn't enough to get law enforcement's attention, the bullet holes should, at least until the inevitable policeman stands close and sees the bullet holes aren't actually through the steel body panels. The bullet holes might earn the driver a ticket all on their own. Luckily the Nova carries enough pedigree to overcome this defamation.

4 Dodge Charger

Perhaps not a classic just yet, but well on its way is the newer generation Dodge Charger. Aside from the fact that these cars can't come with a manual transmission, thanks to the design of the driver's side floor, this car isn't half bad. It can come with lots of power and is still rear-wheel-drive, so plenty of fun can still be had. Of course this particular Charger comes with its own set of problems. For instance, it appears to have rust painted above the wheel arches, and there appears to be machinery of some kind painted on the side.

3 Oldsmobile 442

The biggest tragedy yet, is what this poor 442 had to go through. Gaudy is the only word that can properly describe this car, from the front grill to the rear wheels that are much too large. The bright red is almost a mirror finish, the wheels are too busy and the headlights appear to be somehow larger than they were from the factory. The 442 is an icon of American muscle, and could be equipped with a massive 7.5-liter V8. The 442 W-30 is the package to get, which included the 7.5-liter, as well as an aluminum intake and an anti-slip differential.

2 C7 Chevrolet Corvette

All Corvettes become instant classics as soon as they're released, but this doesn't mean they are disposable. This Corvette suffers from an owner that does not know what to do with the paint job, and rather than leave it alone, they prefer to take a wet brush and swing it wildly, hoping something is going to stick. Although it could be a wrap. There are so many stickers on the windshield, it's a wonder the driver can see the road. The C7's visibility is almost like playing hide and seek with other cars on the road.

1 Dodge Charger

The greatest travesty on this list lies on the shoulders of this B Body Dodge Charger. It appears as if a lake was painted on the side of the car, but who in their right mind would allow that? The yellow color change at the front is disjointed, and if the entire car was green it might not be so cluttered. Luckily the body itself hasn't been changed with any strange aesthetic mods or deformities, like wings or horns, which nowadays isn't far off the realm of possibility.
