Ford is offering a new perk for buyers of the 2020 Shelby GT500 - they'll get a free performance driving course at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. The new East Coast headquarters of the Ford Performance Racing School will host the GT500 Track Attack program which will be offered free to new owners of the Shelby GT500. A second day is available for drivers who just can't get enough.

Taming a Beast

The GT500 comes from the Shelby tuners with a ground thumping 760 hp supercharged V8 putting down 625 lbs.-ft. of torque. Even with suspension and braking upgrades, that's a lot of power to put into a Mustang. Giving drivers unfamiliar with that much power a primer on how to put it down might help keep more GT500s on the road and out of the trees or in a ditch.

One Day Instruction

The day of instruction includes a loaner GT500 from the school with a half hour classroom session followed by launch control exercises. That leads to drag strip runs before lead and follow and demo laps on the road course. Each driver is allowed to bring a non-driving guest who gets to watch them do all that fun stuff. They also get a catered lunch.

Ford Racing Schools

The program is similar to that of other racing schools that Ford offers across the country for their other offerings that have a hint of speed. That includes the more track oriented GT350 and Focus RS. The Charlotte Motor Speedway headquarters will house other performance schools with the GT500 Track Attack being first. For up to $1,995 drivers can get a second day with four hot lap sessions. Sounds like a good deal to me!
