There are plenty of racing games out there that we can't stop playing, some are perfect for beginners and others are best left to pro gamers. While it's not just a car game, the GTA saga is probably one of the most famous gaming sagas of all time. The concept of the game has been the same from the beginning, and it's simple yet awesome. You get to move freely around a city stealing as many cars as you want, driving them as fast as you can, and completing missions for strangers who pay you. What more could you ask for?

Updated May 2021: Whether you're a hardcore fan of Grand Theft Auto V or just a casual gamer, you'll be happy to know that we've updated this article with more of the coolest cars featured in the game. We're also taking a closer look at the cars they're all based on, because it's very obvious that Rockstar found some inspiration in real-life vehicles.

But as time went by, each subsequent GTA release became more sophisticated and visually convincing. But every true gearhead plays this game mostly for one reason: the cars. Grand Theft Auto gives players infinite possibilities that other racing games don't, like stealing, crashing, driving at full speed, and customizing your car in virtually infinite ways.

It's clear that to design these cars, the people from Rockstar have taken a little inspiration from real-life cars. Join us and let's see 13 examples of GTA cars and what they are in real life.

13 Invetero Coquette - Chevrolet Corvette C7

Via: gta.fandom.com

The Coquette has been around since 2008 when GTA IV came out. Back then, it was obviously a Corvette C5, and for GTA V the model has been upgraded to look much like the Corvette C7. In the game, you can have it with a Targa top or a hardtop coupe. Is one of the fastest sports cars in the game and has many modifications available. Maybe the only unrealistic detail is that, under the hood, there is a 4-cylinder engine. There is also a version called the Coquette Classic, which looks like the C2 Stingray.

12 Truffade Nero - Bugatti Chiron

Via: gta.fandom.com

The Nero is a pretty obvious representation of the Bugatti Chiron. It's the successor of the Truffade Adder, the car that was many years the fastest and most expensive car on the game. The Nero is one of the few cars available for modification at Benny's special car tuner in the game. The original price is $1,440,000 and turning it into the custom version at Benny's costs another $600,000.

11 Grotti Turismo Classic - Ferrari F40

Via: www.laps4.com

The F40 is not an easy car to drive, and neither is its digital version on the GTA V Online. The general aesthetic of the car looks really similar to the Ferrari F40, but once again, one little detail is missed: the Turismo Classic has a V12, while the F40 has a V8. Apart from that, it's a really fast car, and it looks incredible. It costs $705,000, which is not much, and with the right modifications, you can make it look like the racing version of the F40, the F40 LM.

10 Principe Deveste Eight - Devel Sixteen

Principe Deveste Eight
Rockstar Games

The Principe Deveste Eight is capable of a top speed of 140 MPH, which, strangely enough, is much faster than its "5000 HP" real-life counterpart — the Devel Sixteen — making it one of the fastest cars in the game. The Principe Deveste Eight is a durable car, but unfortunately, it's very vulnerable to gunfire from behind.

Its real-life version, the Devel Sixteen, is manufactured by Dubai-based Devel Motors. Devel claims the Sixteen features a whopping 5000 horsepower engine, but it's only ever been spotted driving at a brisk walking pace. At this point, most gearheads and car journalists alike believe the Sixteen is nothing but vaporware.

9 Pegassi Tempesta - Lamborghini Huracán

Tempesta means "storm" in Italian, which is almost the same meaning as "Huracán". Like the Huracán, the Tempesta is a mid-engine AWD supercar and has amazing handling. This car can be bought online for $1,329,000, and it's heavily modifiable. The only difference is that instead of the V10 found in the Lambo, the Tempesta packs a V8.

8 Progen Tyrus - McLaren F1 GTR Longtail

via GTA

The Progen Tyrus is one of the most desirable supercars in GTA V. This beast is a serious performer, capable of 133 MPH and with extreme levels of grip. Every gearhead's favorite part of driving it is how it backfires and shoots flames when revved hard.

Its real-world version is the McLaren F1 GTR Longtail. To this day, the F1 remains the world's fastest naturally aspirated car thanks to its BMW-built 6.0-liter V12 engine. The Longtail's engine was modified for more power and to be able to cope with all the abuse of endurance races.

7 Karin Futo - Toyota AE86 Levin Coupe

The Futo is another car that has been around since GTA IV. Clearly inspired by the Toyota AE86 Levin, the Futo is known for being one of the best inexpensive drift cars in the game. Like its real-life counterpart, it has a 4-cylinder engine, rear-wheel drive, and a tendency to slide the rear end.

The two-tone paint job that came standard on most Futos reminds of the most famous AE86 of them all: the Trueno driven by Takumi Fujiwara in Initial D. The car can be found on the street and kept in the garage for free, or it can be bought online for only $9,000 — an absolute bargain.

6 Bravado Gauntlet Hellfire - Dodge Challenger SRT Demon

The Gauntlet Hellfire is one of the most accurate car representations in the game. It's the evolution of the regular Gauntlet muscle car. The exterior of the car is much more similar to the Dodge Challenger than the original Gauntlet. It also has smaller wheels and drag tires, a supercharger, and a wide body.

This car is available online for $745,000 — not a bad price. It has many options to customize it. Although it is a fast car on a straight line, its performance around corners is appalling.

5 Annys Elegy Retro Custom - Nissan GT-R R32

Via: Twitter.com

As an R32 fan, this was the car I was most thrilled to see in the game. It just looks so much like the real thing. You won't be seeing the Elegy Retro for sale in the game because the way to get it is to buy an Elegy RH8, take it to Benny's, and pay $904,000 to get the transformation done. After that, there are MANY options for customizing this car: including a wide-body, interior gauges, intercoolers, and the valve cover, among others.

The coolest thing about the car, though, are all the available liveries. There is one called "Midnight Racer" which looks very much alike to Brian O'Conners R34 Skyline GT-R in 2 Fast 2 Furious. There is another design named "Not tonight Pizza Boy" in reference to the street racing scene in The Fast And The Furious.

4 Vapid Bullet - Ford GT

Vapid Bullet GTA
via GTA Fandom

The Vapid Bullet, with its top speed of 220 MPH, is one of the fastest cars in the game. It has earned a reputation for being more than a handful to handle, but in the hands of an experienced player, it's actually surprisingly well-behaved.

Looking at the Vapid Bullet, it's fairly obvious that it is based on the Ford GT from the mid-2000s. The Ford GT had some issues, and its big, powerful V8 made it one of the thirstiest cars on the market back then, but these days it's highly sought-after and prices have been climbing steadily.

3 Dewbauchee Exemplar - Aston Martin Rapide

Via: www.gtabase.com

In the game, the Exemplar is a pretty standard car, interesting enough to pick up on the street and keep in your garage, but not interesting enough to go online and buy it. The exemplar is the sedan version of the Rapid GT, a sports car that was for a long time the best one in its category. As the Rapid GT is the in-game version of the Aston Martin DB9, the Exemplar is the same for the Aston Martin Rapide.

2 Dewbauchee JB 700 - Aston Martin DB5

Via: www.reddit.com

You don't have to be a James Bond fan to recognize that this is an Aston Martin DB5. The "JB" stands for James Bond and the 700 is just 007 spelled backwards. There are two versions of this car: the JB 700 and the JB700 W.

The first one is available in history mode for $350,000, and it comes without the weapons. The interesting one, the JB700 W, is available in online mode, for $1,470,000, but includes two guns in the front (picture) and the option to install either spikes that blow up other player's tires or a spit of oil that will make other players lose control of their vehicles.

1 Bravado Banshee - Dodge Viper

Of all the cars in this list, the Banshee is the one with the most history. It was first seen in GTA III, and it also appears in Vice City, San Andreas, GTA IV, and all the expansions, and finally, in GTA V. Unlike the car that it emulates, the Dodge Viper, the Banshee has a V8 engine. It's one of the best sounding cars in the game and also one of the fastest, but the weight distribution makes it extremely difficult to handle at high speeds.

Fun fact: in 2013 the renowned tuning house West Coast Customs built a real-life Banshee using a Viper as a base car.
