Everyone knows who Guns N' Roses is, right? They're the L.A.-based hard rock band that burst onto the music scene in 1997 with the award winning album, "Appetite for Destruction." With Axl Rose on vocals, Slash on lead guitar, drummer Rob Gardner, Izzy Stradlin on rhythm guitar, and Duff McKagan on bass, they cranked out several more albums before splitting up in the 1990's. Some of the band has since reunited, Slash and today's gearhead in focus bassist Duff McKagan.
3 How He Started
The oft-times earned reputation of rock n' rollers is of fast living and hard driving figuratively as well as literally. Eric Clapton, for instance, is notorious for his love of Ferraris, Eddie Van Halen his Lamborghini Miura S, and Kid Rock apparently has a fondness for lifted pickups and old-school Americana. Now that makes sense! But would you believe that Duff McKagan's daily driver is a 2018 Ford Explorer Sport that he rates as an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10? Go figure. But that's not the only car in his stable.
2 Some of Duff's Rides
Next up is a car that seems more befitting the rocker persona - a 2018 Jaguar XJ with a 5.0 liter Ford Coyote V-8. Duff rented a Mustang GT a few years back and liked its sportiness and raw delivery of power. With a growing family, and a wife and daughters who all tower over the 6 foot mark, he needed a car that was both comfortable and had more grunt than the stock Jag mill. The local Ford and Jaguar dealer suggested the swap and Duff gave it the green light. According to Duff, the car scores top marks across the board.
1 And Some More ...
Duff learned to drive in a 1963 VW Beetle and when he finally got his license his first car was a 1963 Chevrolet Impala. He is, in his own words, a basic car guy that appreciates simple driving dynamics, a spot of luxury, and reliability. Now who would have thunk? Buckle up.
